not sure about that. They've hardly brought over a second string outfit, like they did in 2011. Arguably its their strongest available side (or close to). I certainly think it's not crucial that the Boks win, but a loss to either side would be a disappointing way to start the season.

If the Saffers really think have nothing to lose when they play overseas tests, then the once-proud Springbok spirit of rugby is dead. The old Boers will be turning in their graves.

Only the foolish see it this way. Deans suggested Aus have more to lose than the Boks or rather that the game is more important to Aus than the Boks.

Wales currently 5th on 84.07
Aus currently 6th on 82.95

Aus win by 1-15 go to 84.18 (SA to 87.00)
Aus win by 15+ go to 84.79 (SA to 86.39)

Ireland currently 3rd on 85.76 so SA will remain 2nd regardless.

Totally agree. First of all we need to attack the breakdown and at least gain parity in the contest for the ball, so I'd have started Pocock at 7 with Higgers at 8. Then we need to have good speed and direction in the 9, 10 and 12 structure, so I'd have gone with Phipps, Cooper and To'omua for this test, and I'd have liked to see a specialist win ger on one side, so would have started with either Mitchell or Tomane in place of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) who would be on the bench.

The form of Genia, Giteau etc could have been assessed from the bench in this game. Experimentation otherwise should have been put off until the game against the Argies.

I really do not understand the mindset of some posters. Yes we can roll out the same side and structure that has reaped average results at best in recent times or we can change it up, go in a different direction and try and put together a "new" Wallabies side that has the potential to take down the heavy weights of world rugby.
I mean do we want to exit in the quarters of the RWC and be seen to be a solid mid level test side or do we want to give this thing a nudge?

Pretty much what I would have done, though I may have started Gitts for a look see. I'd like to see Cooper on the end of fast, but not always accurate, ball from Phipps.

That would be getting close to the core of my first 15.

I'm thinking that Cheika sees it as the core to his second 15, or bench/wider 31, but giving them a chance to step up.

Agree re wingers cant deny journeyman AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) but hes just not quick enough on the wing... i think cheik still experimenting would like to see genia back himself for a run or two as well... i think big boks be running lots thru 10 12 channel... i know i would... btw whos ref?.

I think Horne and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) are actually good wingers, with Cooper playing, Horne is a must, he will defend in the 10/12 channel with Cooper dropping into a 2nd 15 role.

Pocock vs Hooper? I don't know, it has all been said, but I don't expect up to attack the ball at the breakdown, I expect us to fan out and defend. If we get a dominant tackle then whoever is about will try to poach.

In attack I expect us to move it wider to a pod, looking for quick recycles and moving the Boks about

Not sure I understand this. Does size count when we are starting such a small No 10, and on the wing either of Mitchell or Tomane (especially) are bigger than AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Horne?
