Could be an issue for the Wallabies. Don't think I saw a single legal maul on the weekend against usa.

Yep, I commented as much on the match thread. It was very obvious they had ball-carrier marching back (not really bound) and players joining in front in pretty much all.

I once had the good fortune to talk to him and I asked him why he tackles on times with his head the wrong side he just looked and said if I just use my arms they could break the tackle with my head there I stop them. hmmm!

A couple weeks ago I was saying here and elsewhere that Wales better hope 1/2p stays healthy and doesn't try to tackle anyone with his head, because he's the difference when it comes to fine margins in tight games. Didn't think it would be his knee, and really sorry to see him gone.

Was beaten to the punch by BH and Cyclo re our maul work. There was a lot of players joining in front of the ball. It would be really terrible to kill our momentum through silly penalties. Particularly given that its the type of thing the refs will be more than willing to pull us up for against the home teams.

That said there was at least one excellent maul drive on the weekend. If we can do it right it will be a useful string in our bow.

It should be such and easy thing to fix. Just drill into the players that they have to lay an arm around the ball carrier at the back and then slide up past them to the next player they want to bind to.

It's not like you have to be completely bound to that back player first under the way the law is interpreted. You just have to make contact with them prior to moving up.

Further to the appointment of citing, judicial & appeals officials:

"All players will be regarded as having commenced the Tournament without any yellow cards or Citing Commissioner Warnings on their record .................."; and

"The list of YC & CWC accumulated [in-Tournament] will be re-set ito zero............... immediately after the quarter finals.........."

If nothing else that's good news for Quade Cooper!

Also interesting discipline-wise is that just one AB (Whitelock v SA) has been binned in our five tests this year c.f. seven in 13 last year (none in last two so kinda seven in 11).

Why would you have 10 officers/commissioners with 10 different opinions on the same incident when it would be trivial to have a much smaller team and ensure some consistency?

Other than getting a few more onto the gravy train obviously.

Also good news for Macaw, now that his cloak of invisibility has become slightly opaque.

The citing commissioners do the reporting. One attends each game. There are 88 games. You need quite a few.

Yeah, well, Quade's the one with two Yellows to his name this year.................

That be 48: 40 Pool matches (20 teams x four matches each/ two teams per match) + four QF + two SF, + playoff for third + GF :) Your point stands, tho, inasmuch as it's too much work for a smaller group of people even without having to provide for neutrality.

Can anyone direct me to a spreadsheet of the RWC fixtures, as I want to add my own notes etc e.g. highlight the games I want to watch. Even for me 88 games is a stretch too far.
