Wow, after Cardiff, my head hurts. In Birmingham now, colloquially known as 'The Second City'. The best Indian restaurants in all of the UK are here and I'm off to Punjabi Rasoi which is supposed to be the best curry house of the lot.

I received an email yesterday from a GM that was originally sent from the comp manager.

2016 Shute Shield kicks off weekend of March 19. Because of Channel 7's Olympic broadcast commitments next year there will be no allocated wet weather weekends. 18 straight round from March 19, playing through both Easter and June long weekends. Round 1 of finals will be July 23 with Grand Final August 6.

I don't believe the draw itself is done yet, however the competition dates are locked in. We're finishing earlier every year.

Perhaps this is getting us ready to go back to 22 rounds in 2017 with a later start to the NRC mooted for 2017.

Really hope you're right about the return to 22 rounds.
The current setup is too unfair.

I would love to see the competition return to 22 rounds as I think it is a fairer model that everyone plays each other home and away.

What would Parramatta's reason's for support be?

More even comp draw when you play everyone home and away.

We now finish in July, if we don't have anyone making finals, which means no income from August to March every year now. It is insane. And it makes it harder and harder for all clubs to function with a skerrick of fiscal responsibility.

Even the traditionally cashed up clubs like Souths and Manly have seen revenue decrease in recent years. And Manly reckon they get 10,000 to home games v Warringah. What chance do the rest of us have?

Whats the point of him going to Randwick though? with their superstar team and already waratahs players, what would it accomplish him being with them?

It will be interesting to see how the Wicks manage player expectations next year.
There's quite a few more than 15, that were attracted to the Wicks as a way of enhancing their their prospects of picking up a pro contract.
Most players are aware that very few gain pro contracts playing in 2's.....

I believe they have already lost a few who played 1st grade last year for that exact reason - promised the world - but to lots of players - as you say, can only start 15

Sort of the same point of Izzy Folau going to Uni.

Any Wallaby player never plays for their Club.

Has Izzy attended any Club training sessions on No 1 Oval, or been to any Uni Gymnasium or S&C sessions?

Full Contract Waratah Players are lucky to play any more than one or two games per season for their club.

The benefits though are that clubs "out West" can promote the Wallaby /Waratah players as "one of their own" which could attract sponsors, increase general spectator awareness and/or attract/retain junior players for said "struggling club".

Yeah I understand all that - but he is no izzy... and he will surely have more game time in Shute Shield to get him up to scratch?

Im sure it will help Randwick's deep pockets attract more sponsors and awareness etc.... I mean they clearly need it more than the other teams!

Suspect Randwick are replicating the Uni model of building great depth through the grades. That seemed to have worked well for Uni over the years however I agree, it will be an interesting camp when regular First Graders are made to play 2nds due to depth and having toappease all the brilliant young prodigies they have recuited

.

Pass it to Dunning!

Objectively, I think Reece Robinson really should be attached to the Two Blues. He played for the Eels, so there's a connection there. The Two Blues did a good job with Taqele when he switched over from league. And the western Sydney clubs could use a hand while Randwick will do just fine next year.

the Tahs wont send anyone west anymore - not a priority for them sadly...
Look what they did to big Mike because he didnt fit in with the culture of the club - ie he wouldnt move clubs to Easts or Wicks.

My money is Zac Guildford will be appointed a Randwick player and Reece Robinson will be appointed to Easts. They probably won't play any Shute Shield games for those clubs but the Tahs really want to focus on growing the game in the eastern suburbs. They see it as looking after the Life Members and the corporates.
