I was having a beer on the wknd with some of the GPS boys and they were saying that Freney is having a shoulder operation and could be out for the season. I also heard that Michael Warman has returned to coach as well. Another coach that has been given the arse by Herbert and co a few seasons ago to come back this yr. Geez they must be short on coaching stocks!

For the heavies Sham vui has moved to Perth with a force training contact. He will no doubt be playing Aussie 20's as well which would of ruled him out of the majority of the QPR season. Going to be one hell of a player though. Watching what he did as an 17/18 year in 2015 was amazing.
Also Matt Randell has hung up the boots along side roommate chuckie Mullins I believe.

From a few posts ago someone asked about wests half back depth. I thought their reserve grade half back last year was fantastic while maybe not up to the class of Smith just yet he would be more than capable at prems level and will grow into it (if smith has left)

@The King - Birmingham is not playing Premier Grade, I believe. He's had too many injuries, unfortunately. A talented prospect, especially when he was playing for Easts a few years back.

You'll find the Premier Colts front-rowers of 2013-2014 will most likely fill the void when Tupou and Moloney are absent. Adam Bennie, who is currently injured, will be back playing for 2016. Nate Gendle is also back playing.

I think Easts will be in the finals again. Regardless of their poor performance last year, they still have a strong team on paper, especially with the addition of Tim Smith.

Looks to me like a bit of a make or break year for the current group of coaches down at the club. Without wanting to create some sort of mass clean out, most of the coaches for 2016 have been down there for 2-3 years and as you've mentioned a few guys who were part of the system coming back... although the trophy cabinet has remained a tad bare compared to previous years.

Even though I'm not a massive fan of Michael Warman here's hoping this season can be a successful one at Yoku rd The Big Dog

GPS Mick - for those of us who might only make one or two trips to Yoku Rd a year - who is Michael Warman?

Also last year there was a lot of comment made about how the GPS boys were handling Dammers coaching style - how are things going on that front in the pre-season?

Bulldog - there were some very frank discussions between the committee, Dammers and the senior playing group at the end of last year to confront any of the issues.

From the outset in 2016 everything seems to be running much smoother and some of the blokes who had their panties in a knot are really standing up and giving it a fair crack this year.

It is quite hard to stand up when your panties are in a knot.... although you will give a fair bit of crack if you do though...

sorry....

How good is it to be back into rugby mode!! Good luck to all this season!

When you travel to Shaw Road, make sure you stick around for a quiet one or two after the game.

All Reds games will be shown live.

There is also hot food, cold drinks and plenty dry jokes on offer!! (please refer to above for the quality)

Playing in the Premier Grade grand final is a poor performance? How do you rate the teams that DIDN'T play in the grand final?

Norths have a number of Reds committing to the program in 2016 including Karmichael Hunt, Duncan Paaiaua, Alex Gibbon, Jack Tuttle and Ben Matwijou. The return of Hendrick Tui and the allegiance of Ayumu Goromaru. A lot of movement from Reds players to different clubs but not only to Norths.

@Pauly, I was referring to Easts' performance IN the 2015 GF. They were minor-premiers who beat reigning champions University in the major-semi final only to be blown off the park by the Magpies in the GF.

If I were an Easts supporter, I would be disappointed with 2015. You were minor-premiers and the best team all year, then only to fall at the final hurdle.

It seems to happen to Brothers every year. We get into the major or minor semi and then lose. Mind you, that was usually as a result of playing teams with a strong representative presence. Not taking anything away from those respective sides as they were better on the day.

I think Easts should be pretty happy with how they went last year. You'd like to think that the playing group and coaching staff have learnt a lot from the experience and will have extra hunger in 2016.

I'd be happy if my club was playing in the grand final, even if they lost. Better than missing out on the finals all together.

You'd like to think a few of these guys would have a run with the Eagles in 2016. Hopefully they can help the entire group lift their level of play. I remember just under 10 years ago when Norths got off to a great start to the season how much excitement they brought to the comp. They played a curtain raiser at Suncorp and they had almost as many supporters as the Reds did (think it was 2007 the Eddie Jone year for the Reds).

@Jets - I think it was 2008 when Norths won seven out of their first eight games.

Norths have always had a very strong following, but it was particularly strong in that year. In the away fixture, a Brothers player was sent off at Shaw Rd after a brawl and was promptly met with a strong and 'polite' reception from the crowd on his way to the sheds.

On that note, it's great to see the North side battle is the opening fixture for 2016.
