The skill sets have to complimentary. The Pooper is just two on-baller's, they compliment each other. The mode of play needs to suit them as well. The Welsh, Scots and English didn't do anything different to what we have seen from them for years. The French and Italians likewise except theirs is a race to the bottom with the French in particular in danger of not truly being regarded as a tier 1 side anymore.

The Irish are the only side that I think even attempted to play something different to their failed RWC style. That was good enough to win 6N but rarely against the SH sides.

While the Wales V Ireland game was a cliff hanger and very hard fought the Welsh play was as predictable as ever, they should have moved Gatland on.

Did you see Nick Bishop's review of Wales' wide-wide attempt on the main page? Pretty astute.

Steady on Harinordoquy is 56 or some like that.

I would play Chouly at 8 and bring bruiser le Roux onto the flank - I wouldn't start Camara.

Just something I'm toying with:

The last few years there has been a steady debate about whether the 6N should employ a bonus points system or not. The argument for is it would promote more attacking, attractive rugby, like we saw on the last day of the 2015 tournament. The big bugbear against is it would make it possible for a team to win all their matches (grand slam), but lose on bonus points. That's probably addressed by simply giving a heap of extra points if a team wins a grand slam.

One Irish website did a review of how previous 6N games would have turned out had bonus points been available, and found that since Italy joined, bonus points would have only made a difference in three championships.

The current 6N points system is:
  • 2 for a win
  • 1 for a draw
  • 0 for a loss
There are three bonus points systems currently at play in rugby union worldwide:

Regular System
  • 4 for a win
  • 2 for a draw
  • 1 for 4 or more tries
  • 1 for losing by 7 or less
Ligue Nationale System
  • 4 for a win
  • 2 for a draw
  • 1 for winning by at least 3 tries
  • 1 for losing by 5 or less
NRC System
  • 4 for a win
  • 2 for a draw
  • 1 for winning by at least 3 tries
  • 1 for losing by 8 or less
So I'm just keeping a record of what the table would look like if each of these systems were in play. After two rounds, it looks like this:

----------------------------------------------------
|-------------|--6N--|--Reg--|---LN--|--NRC-|
|England----|---4---|----9---|---9---|---9---|
|France-----|---4---|----8---|---8---|---8---|
|Wales------|---3---|----6---|---6---|---6---|
|Ireland-----|---1---|----3---|---3---|---3---|
|Scotland---|---0---|----2---|---1---|---2---|
|Italy-------|---0---|----1---|---1---|---1---|
---------------------------------------------------
(How the hell can you get a table in this thing?)

You know Super Rugby has changed to the ligue nationale system.

Super Rugby's using the regular system, right? 4 points for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 bonus for 4 tries or more, 1 bonus for losing by 7 or less. That' hasn't changed, has it?

No 4-try BP any more, it's now a BP for outscoring the oppo by 3+ tries.

Not sure this is the right place to post this, but the thing that wound me up about the 6 nations was the board behind people being interviewed. Alongside the sponsors were the words- “6 Nations- rugby’s greatest championship”. I felt this was a dig at the rugby championship.

In the long established tradition of childish tit for tat, I would like to see something like this on the board behind interviewees during the rugby championship- “Rugby Championship- rugby’s greatest 4 nations”.

Any suggestions on how we might be able to put this suggestion to someone who might be able to act on it?

Wrong thread, this is for those who actually support the 6N.
