Well done Victoria. First they roll NSW in the U20, now they repeat the performance against Qld Schools.

No longer the easy beats, and it is not just one age cohort that is having success against their big brothers.

Day 1 is supposed to be the day of good old fashioned "whuppings" with the surprises on Thursday.

Seems some whuppings are happening today but the usual suspects aren't on the receiving end.

Mohi and Jaffa-Williams got 2 each. Osborne scored on the death

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The first try was credited to 9. Haskins but agree it was 11. Mohi.

Very exciting game with NSW 1 scoring on the death to win, just like watching an All Blacks game

so its been a bleak day for Qld with both teams going down.

Now that's an understatement.......It's faarkin terrible. Vic and CS.....Faark.
Selectors heads need to roll, the GPS headmasters need to get off their dates and sort out this term 3 bullshit.
We have the cattle. Faark.
Rant over.

Never undersetimate a beseiged Queenslander.

They usually bounce back from setbacks like this, with a vengeance.

On one level, it is wonderful to see brave performances from ACT and Vic, but Aus Rugby needs Qld rugby to be strong, as well as growing strength in the "newer markets" of ACT, Vic and WA. I'm not sure that growth in the "new markets" at the expense of the existing power bases is good for the long term health of Australian Rugby.

Hopefully it is just a cyclical anomaly related to just this age cohort rather than a sign of a much deeper malaise in Qld rugby. But then is this evidence of the Richard Graham effect?

Qld teams scored 3 points after half time across Q1 and Q2.

Can this be put down to the GPS plays in Term 3 reason? If so, GPS have been playing Term 3 for quite a while, and Q1 and Q2 have been competitive on Day 1, along with having enough elite level schoolboys to warrant a roughly 50/50 representation in the Combined States team. It can't be as simple as the GPS competition hasn't started yet.

Really looking forward to reading @Lee Grant's analysis of the day's proceedings on the blog front page.

Speaking to some people today, they have known for a few years this QLD cohort was not going to be a strong year. In saying that the Victoria and ACT teams are some of the best they have had for a long time.

It's a cyclic thing. Qld will return.
