NSW 2s Liam Rasch won the RUPA (Rugby Union Players Association) award for being the best player in the Final.

The fellow from RUPA said he had won a scholarship worth $2,000 to help fund his way and career in the Australia selections (I presume to help towards the cost of the flights etc. to Samoa and NZ).
Pity he then didn't make any selection.

Liam - take the money and spend it on education, gym membership, new boots, healthy food - and go and play Colts.
You'll still get there, lad.

I couldn't agree more. Liam is a great young talent who will no doubt go on to bigger and better things. He was thoroughly deserving of the RUPA gong for his performance in the final.

To those that got picked, congratulations and hope you get through the rest of the season injury free and make the most of it if it's your last schoolboy rep opportunity. To the shadow players, history favour's a call up. Das Valkyrie is still someway off from warming up her vocal chords, so don't lose hope.

With all the conjecture about selections and bias etc it's worth noting that for those leaving the relativley cloistered confines of schoolboy footy at the end of this year the real start of a rugby career in opens footy begins next year.

Reputations and accolades derived from schoolboy achievements are something to be very proud of but unfortunately won't count for much next year when the 2016 y12 leavers will have to prove they have the minerals to compete in open competitions where scarce sponsorship/Club shekels may be on offer.

As has been noted ad nauseum on this thread the cream will always rise to the top.

Thought Rasch very much deserved player of the match in the final game (RUPA award) closely in pursuit by Silk, Smeallie and Suttor, and Rixon if he had continued playing. Obviously the selectors penciled in a team before the game, because clearly the bulk of the performers of the day weren't selected, nor were the performers by NSW on any day for that mater.

All this talk of selections, i would be interested to know how many of this years U20s Aussie squad actually played Aussie Schoolboys back in their day. Is anybody privy to this sort of information? As people have said, the reset button gets pushed on 1 Jan 2017 and the cream rises to the top in club land.

With all the talk about over selection can we please remember that QLD 1 did actually beat the eventual winners NSW II.
Also I think the selectors would have taken into account the weather conditions (rightly or wrongly).

On another note Queensland uniforms look terrible with a Polo shirt, shorts and a hoodie compared to the other states such NSW.

Contrary to popular belief, the distribution of NZ Schoolboys team across the schools in terms of numbers is not dissimilar to ours, although there are a few more public school players.

Bear in mind that many of the NZ public schools have aggressive Rugby programs like some of our private schools, along with Rugby scholarships being openly advertised, and talent scouting expeditions to the PI.

Amazing that all of this breaks down to it Bill Pulvers fault. The ARU does not control nor have any appointment of State or Australian Schools sides. If it did perhaps there would be more rigour and science to the selection bias apparent in this years teams. In fact, given the next pathways are through colts and then potentially Super franchise 20's and possibly Australian 20's, maybe the selection panels could be made up of professional coaches who know what they are looking for rather than being blinkered by State or public vs private bias. What is for sure is that vested interest at schools level by selectors and in some cases the appointment of coaches to positions beyond their skill level is detrimental to the game at this level. Many of these boys aspire to professional careers in rugby, yet we waste spots on league players and on favourites of selectors. I wish that Bill Pulver and the ARU were in charge. I would create allot more clarity than this process has produced.
