Wow .. Frost has another year! He might get a growth spurt

After seeing him in joeys pre season game thought he was a fair chance of Aussie schools

Oh well Trinity rasch was robbed not to be picked initially, so I guess frost's bad luck had lead to some justice

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread but my sources tell me Knox have recently enrolled a 100Kg American from Cincinnati who is an absolute animal. Interesting to see how he competes this year with Knox's strong front row.

He will have to bulk up then if he is to be competitive. Might make the 3rds....

Aaron,

I didn't read SDW's comment anything like you apparently did.

It was clear to me that he was praising both players highly!

Also BACK OFF on your language, you don't know who you are talking to nor their rugby expertise. I certainly hope you played high level rugby eg first 15, but suspect not.

By all means make comments but cut out the aggressive comments, or choose another forum.

Heard the other day at the Aloys game that Frost is 204cm.... He has to be the tallest schoolboy lock in Aus. Keep in mind the young lad is only 16!! He sure has plenty of talent and could be a future star, given his frame.

Guessing that he will have a big preseason to bulk up a bit after he recovers from his injury. With a bit more size on him i can see him being a very damaging player. Will defiantly be one to watch next year.

I don't like to feed the trolls , however I will respond

thanks whitelinefever, for standing up for me

I was not in any way diminishing frost , quite the opposite ... In the joeys game I referred to, he was the best player imho in a losing team (better than Armstrong , the usual star, who spent that game running cross field)

For a super tall kid, he has an awesome step... And a good work rate ....personally I think he could well feature in higher rep honours in years to come ....

What I was referring to in terms of injustice was the fact that Rasch was awarded player of state champs yet missed selection (at least initially)

That is unheard of .. I would have thought

Anyway both frost and rasch are special players .... So yes I might be a tad one eyed to Waverley however I tip my hat , to both the aforementioned players

Frost will be an important part of knox's 2017 hopes

@SDW, small correction. Liam Rasch was awarded the RUPA award for player of the championship Final.

I thought his performance in that game was very worthy of that award and he would have played himself into at least the Babaas. Great to see he got the call up. Unlucky for Frost but he will have another chance next year.

His replacement in AUST A might just go round him,

Angus Blyth from QLD - Not sure how tall

My thoughts on a few teams next season:

Barker in particular I feel will have more success than their 2016 campaign, with several players returning. They should have a strong forward pack lead by Coghill & Reimer, & their backline should appear more fluent behind their strong returning 9/10 combination of Tejeck & Kitchener

Knox will be strong again however I feel unlike barker may be slightly weaker when compared to their 2016 side. The loss of various stars (Margin, Bassan, Bosch & Armstrong in particular) will be felt however they will return strong as usual with critical depth. Crucial to their campaign will be Frost & Woodcock

Aloys is difficult to call, as injuries will again harm the team like most years. A backline this year which rarely got to perform at full strength would have included the likes of Dainton, Slaven & Mazaraki, however these names will now be missed. On the bright side, however, was the strong performances of Rahme, Partington & Flaherty this year, & Westbury will be critical if the backline is too flow

Trinity, albeit largely a statement with little evidence, I feel may struggle with the loss of several stars such as Rasch, Wayland, Morris & Longville. However a returning 9/10 combination will be highly beneficial, & Stead will be crucial after a strong season

SDW, no problem,I would think there are numerous people, regardless of school, who would support you and anyone else if required.

Anyway, 2017 should be great, like this year, with a lot of passionate school boy talent on show, go the waves!

2017 season preview:

With the 2016 season over its already time to hypothesis over the potential teams and positions leading into next years season.

1st place:

Barker College

While a couple years in the wilderness means a strong young cohort of Barker players have flown under the radar, Barker peaked interest in a late season push to show how much potential they will have leading into 2017. The likes of Coghill, Lloyd, Flaherty and Reimer will be key to a successful 2017. There are other unsung heroes in the squad such as Buffa who was a standout and one of the best on paddock through the year as well as an energised and focused coaching staff that have been willing to roll the dice with some key positional decisions and set piece plays.

Key players: Coghill, Lloyd, Buffa

2nd Place:

Waverley College

Waverley has turned a corner this year. From their big dip in 2014 to finally claiming their first premiership in 7 years it was a great year and next year they will again be strong and competitive. But they will miss the size in some of their forwards and speed out wide to beat a barker team that will have all that and more. Waverley will have some very powerful players in Wright and Cornish who has been out for some time with an ACL injury. If they appoint the same coaches as this year, they will be genuine threat to the title.

Key players: Donaldson, Wright, Moretti

3rd Place:

Knox Grammar School

Knox would be disappointed they have been placed in third for this preview, but if you look closely at how much they lose this year, it is a likely scenario. Knox won't have a genuine back rower this year for the first time since 2013. A team that focuses so heavily on a strong forward runner will find this a difficult gap to fill. Without the stars of yesteryear they will still have strength coming from their seconds. But their weaknesses in their 16's age group will mean for once, Knox will find depth to be an issue.

Key Players: Frost, Woodcock, Cutrone

4th Place:

St Aloysius

This might seem a difficult prospect, especially considering the impact that 86-0 loss in the last round may have on their rugby program. But consider the strength in their u16's team who were the only team to beat Waverley u16's this year. While they relied heavily on a team that was consistently injured and sore, there will be more depth and lots of potential in this squad next year.

Players to Watch: Rahme, Westbury, Partington

5th Place:

Trinity

Trinity would be disappointed since they appointed Engele as coach several years ago, and rightly so. It has been a tough couple of years for the men in green, particularly when you look at the amount of NSW representatives the team has produced. The loss of Rasch and Longville will greatly impact the potential and basis that this team has ridden for so long. They will find 2017 a difficult year to compete in.

Players to watch: Stead, Hollingsworth-Dessent, Ilias

6th Place:

The story looks difficult for Cranbrook. The loss of Searle and Kemmeny are too big a gap to fill and when you look at their seconds and 16a's its paints a picture that shows, a win will be difficult for Cranbrook in 2017.

William88, great review, I won't change your incorrect predictions but do love your analysis.

I will make 1 comment, the waves boy to watch is the no.8 this year, who will be in year 11 in 2017. If anyone has a young lad in another school who is a rising star, without putting too much pressure on them, keen to get your opinion.

Some rumblings that there was a heated exchange in regards to the future of Matt Williams at Knox this week.

More information to come.

Be careful what you wish for BM. Word is John Weeks is no rugby lover and if Williams goes so may much of the impetus behind the rugby program. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a return to the days when all boys played an unrelated summer sport and the maths teacher coached the 1s, but sometimes it's better the Devil You Know.
