NRC onwards and upwards

I'd like to think that nsw country would survive because they play in regional areas and help promote the game in the bush. There's no real affiliations with SS teams to the Sydney NRC teams, the trend is to follow the coach, so hard to pick a team to support. A unified Sydney team and a Country team (like QLD) would be the best fit to build the support base and the comp if NSW went for 2 teams

The three teams weren't so bad last year, and Perth will be weaker next year (should they be in the comp).

So the three might be around a bit longer. I believe Eastwood were guaranteed their Rams licence through 2020.

Otherwise, perhaps a return to some heritage?

Also, bring back the tradition of existing provincial teams - like the heritage they maintain in the NPC/Currie Cup.

All 30 of them?
Country team from yesterday had Ryan, Robertson, Needs, McCauley, Gordon and Kellaway that are in the current squad. There's a few in the Rams, the Rays not so much. Others are on duty for Wobs

Payto and Panda wrote last week that they were looking at going to 2, based on QLDs model of a Sydney City team and NSW Country team. But the Sydney City team may be based in the ‘west’

Is it just me or does it appear that the only solution is to always cut something particularly teams?

The irony of this strategy is as we cut to supposedly increase the quality the more potentially quality players leave. Fox sports has already run several reports on the better known ones going, but there are many more leaving or code hoping.

This problem will always exist when you run competition outside of the Super Rugby season. The players not on Wallaby duties will always get picked first and the unlucky team(s) close the the Super Rugby franchise with the most Wallabies players will always be at a disadvantage.

NRC needs a hybrid reg 8 / reg 9 type thing implemented to level the playing field.

Hypothetically, if the NRC was run during the Super Rugby season this would not be an issue at all? You could still have all those Super Rugby back ups and EPS players playing with a few from the academies to supplement the NRC teams.

Two sides, structured under each Super Rugby franchise is the most sensible option, let the super squads and the U20s split between become the base for the two teams.

Not a bad idea FP. In Canberra, a team could be based around Queanbeyan and double as the replacement for NSW Country, by including country born players from the SS.It would certainly build on the rivalry between the Queanbeyan Whites and the Vikings in the JID.

I think part of the problem with the NSW sides is that the non-Wallaby Tahs were generally awful this year. There was little depth and that has flowed down to the NRC teams.

The Tahs that are currently out injured from what I can work out are Latu and Clark.

The Country Eagles contingent have been doing reasonably well and they are improving after a slow start.

For the Rams, Roach, Holloway and Naiyaravoro have been good. Holloway has missed a couple of games through injury. Mason has been injured a bit but has generally been pretty solid.

The Rays have just as few Waratahs and McDuling isn't that influential, Simone has been injured a bit and not performing that well. Fitzpatrick has been pretty solid but he is not an overly flashy player.

As an obviously biased NSW Country fan, it would be a shame to lose them because they are doing a lot to promote the game in the bush by playing their home game in different regional areas and doing coaching clinics etc around the State. Rugby in the country is dying and their removal would make the NRC totally irrelevant to country folk. I like what the Rising is doing, blooding lots of young players, and while they might have short term pain in results, there should be long term gain for the Rebels when these young men are Super Rugby ready

If this were to occur I would prefer in to be Sydney playing someone more central like Concord and NSWC doing as they do now. Taking games to the regions.

I think that is the best course of action. And it follows closely to traditionally two structures.

Yep WCR, the Rams were supposed to represent Western Sydney, but are now become Greater Sydney but essentially just Eastwood and the growth areas of Sydney (the West) have been shunned again. Concord would be a great option. Good facilities and a chance to spread the Gospel rather than preach to the converted
