Unfortunately I think school rugby will be challenged over the next 5 - 10 years.
The GPS decision to move rugby to term 3 leaves term 2 for soccer (AKA Football), debating, tennis and cross country and then term 3 rugby competes with athletics and Basket ball.
Mum power in terms of dictating...
Thanks for the scores Light.
It looks like my predictions of CSS success may have been a bit premature.
With the likes of Yeatman and O 'Neil in the team I am surprised that they didn't put some points on though.
Hopefully we can get some observations on the games.
It will be interesting to...
Sorry insider, I was just making some suggestions regarding Light' s comment about 3, 11 and 14 and rugby interests comment about lineout jumpers. The CSS squad has definately got some talent in those areas. Regarding the other two I am just putting them on the radar. Thompson is in year 11 and...
CSS will have a couple of great jumpers Penberthy, Ryan, Tanzer and Hine (Downlands) are all tall kids and confident up high. Tane has been good at 1 for Downlands. Timu as discussed, Yeatman & O'Neil (Townsville) and Mead (Downlands, scored a good try agaisnt BSHS last week) look the goods...
As usual Downlands struggles for depth and at times self belief when taking on the much larger GPS schools. The current team on a number of occassions finished a match thinking that they could have or should have won, unfortunately a bit late. They were 7 all with TSS at half time, should have...
Not that it makes any difference but Downlands had starting 3, 4, 7 and 15 out. A daunting task for replacements to come up against BSHS.
What must be most pleasing for the Toowoomba guys is that they put 4 tries on and perhaps surprising for some commentators two were classy tries from the backs.
Light, it may be of interest to know that Downlands had 6 or 7 1st xv players out with flu against Churchie and had a yellow card. No doubt that Churchie 1sts were having a well earned rest but if Downlands can get close to full strength this weekend they will test BSHS. Most of the Downlands...
The U18 Downs squad is mainly made up of Downlands kids as is usually the case. The forwards are all Downlands who have one of the best if not the best packs goung around this year. The inclusion of an outside centre from out of Toowoomba will boost an already slick and skillfull back line. As...
It is a shame Downlands't get a chance against Churchie 1st XV. Understandably they don't want injuries or worse still a loss. It is a short season and these kids need game time. I hope we don't have GPS teams dodging Downlands when they have a strong team. They suffer plenty of losses and still...
Light, Ask the TSS boys if they feel rested. Idoubt that our forwrds will get as tough a test from many teams this year than Downlands gave them on Saturady and Downlands scored a specialy good try through the backs so while not rested they will be ready.
Guys
I think you will find that TSS had their best available team up against Downlands yesterday at home.
It was a great match played in good spirit and an important hit out before Nudgee.
It would be a big mistake for any GPS teams to rest players against the 2011 Downlands side.
Downlands gave TSS a fright yesterday. 10 all at half time. Two quick tries in the 2nd half got TSS out of trouble but Downlands scored in the second half and finished up 34 - 17.
