honestly would love to see rebels save and some of the RA belt tightening happening.

Let’s not forget RA board was all flown out to the World Cup last year (probably business/first class) and grass roots continually gets shafted.

Time to tighten belts at HQ. I’d be selling that RA HQ and then leasing it back to RA so we’d get more cash injection to save the rebels.

Every other province has a property asset. Why not the rebs?

It is funny, there is often talk in the media how there is generally more interest in Aussie derbies (crowds and TV audience). That has never been the case in Melbourne we have usually had better crowds for matches v NZ because a lot of the Kiwis living in Melbourne want to come and watch the NZ teams but not necessarily the other Aussie teams.

Melbourne Rebels directors have overcome opposition from Rugby Australia to win more time from a court as they attempt to save the debt-ridden Super Rugby club.

Federal Court Judge Catherine Button granted a 60-day extension on Thursday that will now allow the Rebels board to propose an alternative arrangement to creditors, in an attempt to avoid liquidation.

Rugby Australia had opposed the bid in a creditors’ meeting on Monday and was instead pushing for the club to be liquidated.

That Age article makes for grim reading. RA wants to liquidate, but the MRRU board say otherwise. Judge agreed and gave them 60 extra days.

As DC said, strap in for a bumpy few months.
