Watching the CBHS v Knox game now on YouTube showed how good Haslam is….
Was wondering why Knox was doing a haka before I realised that CBHS uniform is awfully similar.

The kiwi side looked to have advertising on their uniforms. In particular the main advertising was of a bar and grill!

Any score update?

Barker lost the first game to Osaka 26/19. Barkers run on team was a solid mix of 1sts and 2nds players with a sprinkle of 16As in the wider squad. The games are 2 x 25min halves. Barker was very incohesive in the first half with handling errors and a yellow card giving the home side a solid 19/5 lead at halftime. Baker beefed up the scrum in the 2nd half and it made a difference. A second yellow card, did not help their cause but with a robust forward platform they bridged the gap to 19/19 with 1 minute on the clock. With a attacking line out to the Reds Barker looked set to steel the win. Sadly the lineout missed the mark. Osaka got the ball and their winger found space and ran 55m to score the winning try.

Having watched two other games, the English side was crushed by their Japanese opponents while Hamilton Boys from NZ won their game well. I think looking at the Japanese opponents Barker faced the stronger team. What happens next will depend on Barkers coach. If they had their 1st XV on the park for the majority of the game they probably would have won. But 2 yellow cards meant they played 20 min of the 50 min a player down.

Rod, the top team is Toin Gakuen. Barker lost to a team from Osaka that play their classical edge to edge rugby.

Fukuoka will also be very strong. As will last years champions.

Good luck for the game tomorrow.

Japanese school boy rugby been incredibly underrated for many years now. They are all school sides made up from the schools student body, but the level of discipline in the teams is insane, with the amount of training in their average day mental. Believe last year they had 4 or 5 of their school sides in the top 50 best schools 1st XVs on the planet, with three of those schools being at Sanix again this year.

I believe traditionally in Sanix, it is all about how you start as a team, with last years champions Osaka Toin surving a very tight opening game against a school from England, before pretty much walking through to the knockout stages and the final. Unfortunately, this result means that Barker are very unlikely to be competing for the a top 4 spot in the competition, which is where the winner is decided.

Anyone got the team list for their first game?

Looks like CAS convenor has finally updated the calender - and it's a shared one with AAGPS and ISA for the first 2 weeks.

In Barkers 2nd game of the Sanix tournament they had a good win over Higashi Fukuoka, 52/24. Opposition was weaker than yesterdays game. Baker needs another pool game to go their way which is unlikely. They paid the price for having a mixed team of 1sts and 2nds players rather than their 1st XV until the game was beyond doubt. Sadly, due to yesterdays defeat, it looks unlikely they will progress and will most likely play off for 5th.

Suprised to see Oakhill with only 5 opens teams.

For a school that has been very strong over the past few years, that is less that I would have expected. Perhaps a bit concerning for them given they don't supplement their 1st XV or have league player placed into the school, but rather have traditionally relied on home grown players. I wonder if the changing demographics of NW Sydney might be started to filter through and have an impact on their rugby numbers?
I believe they've had 5 or 6 opens teams most years, but yes, player numbers are down over all of the age groups. I'm sure the demographics of The Hills and surrounding areas are changing, but I think you'll find there are other reasons why numbers are down at Oakhill.

Waverley this year have 5 teams in Opens and 4 teams in each age group from 13's to 16's. (21 all up)

This week the school plays Joeys with the exception of 15A's and B's playing Oakhill.

Barker tight loss in Japan - great to see lots of game time for all players, but two yellow cards and penalty try costing dearly

Shore might have an 9ths this year for the first time in many years.
