Can anyone tell me who subbed on for Shore 1sts today? I heard the were substantial substitutions being made in the previous games against Waverley and QLD state high.

And also anyone out at Wahroonga today able to comment on the performances of the Shore youth in the front row, Tom Green (prop) and Henry Baxter (hooker)?

The replaced both props with Armarti and Hamilton went on also replaced a 2nd rower and back rower with Frape and Murdoch. Not sure any were for a major injuries. Props equipped themselves well and would think both could push for time in upcoming weeks. Other two were on for less time so hard to assess how effective.

Both Green and Baxter played well despite giving away some size to their Knox counterpart’s - the scrum held well despite giving away size across the board.

Thanks for the detail much appreciated.
Agree with the size comments, something I noticed was the substantial decrease in size across the forwards and backs. Last year must’ve been very heavily weighted by the 2024 year 12s.
Also wondering about where Bassingthwaite and Callaghan were?
Will be interesting to see how the season plays out for them this year.

Yes only a few forwards have 1s experience from last year. Both backs still injured - maybe one will be back for Rd1 (15) and then the 10 back much later. Seems a few injuries across the schools so hoping as many as can be healthy for the GPS rounds.

Shore props out sized their opposition, and held more than their own in scrums, but weren’t as dynamic around the ground…. Back row was where Knox won it I feel

Does anyone have any idea on Amarti coming back to Shore 1xv? I am aware he has had shoulder issues but unsure if that’s why he is not playing in 1s. I think they definitely need his size and experience. I also think the same goes for Garner and Hamilton, swap that front row.
Also, I think the verbal and forumal consensus is Baxter wasn’t fitting in the 1s. Good to give him a run but it’s hard to have the size and tikka to go up from year 10. Depending on Amarti’s movements this might be what shore need?

P.s. Someone get Hamilton in 1xv he’s a weapon

New vs kings today

- thought new started very well playing a fast pace attack, they look good with quick ball however their is no chance they can play that style for a full game. They looked gassed by the end and I can’t see them playing that footy for 10 rounds. I think Hemasi needs to be moved in the centres, on the wing they just fail to get him into the game.

- Kings were able to battle in a tight game and come away with a win, be interesting to see the changes when their stars sawyer, smith and fonua return for round 1.

MOTM - Risati scoring two beautiful Try’s and setting up a couple, Looks outstanding at 12.
How did Isaac Fonua go from Kings? And any further thoughts on Heamasi today? - Could maybe see him at 13 but Jarryd King too good to be moved out of that shirt I reckon.

Finally, how did Isaiah Sheck go? Looked an animal for NSW over the two games a few weeks ago. Scary that he's got another year at this level.

It’s that time of year again, lots of chat about the infamous Shore ‘frothy’ 4th XV as usual.

Is this ‘Hoggy’ character the same Shore boy who captained the ‘Freaky Fifth’s’ cricket XI to an outright premiership in the season just gone? Excellent leadership potential if true.
You would have to think so.

Knox's No 8 was sensational.
Knox back row is a coaches dream: #7 hard at the ball but great all round skills, #6 with size and aerial skills (awesome take off Knox’s first kick off!), and #8 who bends the line and folds ball carriers….. the Knox #1 would be awesome too in the back row (saving some juice outside the intensity of scrums) but simply no room for him there yet…

In the end I think they just had a better system. Faster, more dynamic footy that suited their players. Seemed to be alot of deception, quick blindside shifts and speedy play. Worked well for them. Credit to their coaches

I believe Finnigan was absent
Enjoyed the game at Joeys yesterday..
The ground was superb, the weather perfect and a pretty good crowd given it wasn't a AAGPS comp games.

I thought both sides had their chances to win it but Joeys took theirs, Waves dropped too much ball and had poor game management in the dying stages.

The Joeys left side winger was terrific, he is 1 powerful young man.
The Joeys 8 also carried the ball very strongly.
The Waves 9 was terrific, as was the 10.
They were my standout players from both sides.

It's early days but both sides should certainly consider themselves as potential comp champs.

Joker I had 1 pie, and then went back for another!

Can't beat schoolboy footy!

To begin, I am not going to give a straight match report. Mine are more of a narrative to enjoy.

The day began in bright sunshine with No. 1 looking like snooker table top as always. Earlier teams had pleasing results. I spoke to a Joeys 15A player who provided some insight into the mentality of the College teams. He said the key to their victory was "intensity" from the start. This sets the platform of what to come. Other year 10 lads who I had the pleasure of meeting echoed what I had heard earlier. Pleasing to note was the very firm handshakes from all three, the lad from bush almost crushed my hand. Their strength comes from that word, "intensity."

The 1st XV game kicked off in an unusual fashion with the Joeys boys singing "walk on." This war cry is normally used only for the competition rounds. This season it seems the Joeys lads have adopted a more intense style. Speaking to Justice, who looked exhausted after the game, he echoed observations of the others. This mind set helps overcome injuries and provides strength to players who have yet to fully bloom. This was on display as many players who had been moved up teams relished the opportunity and some were best on ground.

Many knew that Joeys were down players. Charlie Ghattas explained to me that due to many lads out the coaches simply chose the best 8 forwards. Ghattas, who is an acclaimed hooker was playing 7. Those who filled in did a remarkable job. The Joeys 6 had a very strong game. He carried the ball up, linked with backs and took high balls confidently. His "intensity" fired up the Joeys forwards . He was ably supported by Justice who again had an enormous work rate. He is unlike his father (2004) who was known as a hard running linking forward. Justice does his best work in the dark, dirty places many wont look at. His world is in the breakdown and defense. Meanwhile Charlie seemed to relish the chance to pilfering at the breakdown. While small in stature this lad is hard as a rock. Waverley were struggling at times to move him. He was stuck to the ball as a barnacle is stuck to a rock.

One of the best on ground was Joeys 9. He steered the team around the field with confidence and provided clean ball. Joeys 12 was a strong ball carrier. Built like a small Sherman Tank, he consistently broke the line and created chaos in the Waverley defense. Joeys 13 also played well, but it was his defense that caught my eye. His opposite number was like a small block of units with legs. He was their go to man in attack. On many occasions Waverley attached the 13 channel. The Joeys 13 kept bringing him down. If he hadn't, Waverley would has scored more,

The first half was dominated by kicking. Waverley were peppering the Joeys full back who kicked out and rarely put up a high ball. Waverley worked their way to inside the Joeys 10m and then used their bigger pack to score. This tactic was very successful and would have reaped more rewards except for some relieving penalties that rescued Joeys.

The second half. Joeys started to stretch the Waverly team with the balls spinning wide which saw two tries results. There was speed on the wing that hadn't been utilized before and the winger broke through his opposite number. Waverley were still in the game when the scored late in the game bring them withing striking distance. With two minutes to play Joeys once again ran the ball and found themselves 5m out. This time the small Joeys forwards used their lower body height to burrow through and score. The win was secure.

As trials go this would have pleased the Joeys team as a disjointed forward pack and a well directed back line kept a very good Waverley team at bay. The coaches now will have a selection issues but they now have confidence in their depth. The 2nds were dynamic with another Jorgensen
lurking. His time will come.

Final Note- The pies were excellent. New supplier. Good firm crust with delicious meat chunks and good gravy. Better than Shore?
