I imagine he'll be a candidate, he's got a solid (though still a bit thin) base and seems pretty ambitious in his coaching career, but how are you measuring success there? I'm not sure Mowen has anywhere near enough to set him ahead of Hilton, who also has head coach experience and experience with the side.

Hilton is obviously the front runner and favourite, and probably his if he wants it (ie doesn't want the Wallaby assistant coach job through a World Cup)
But I think we should challenge the assumptions. Surely the best way to measure success in rugby union is the traditional way. Last two years Mowen's forwards have gone up against Hilton's.

I'm not sure that's a particularly traditional (or accurate) measure of success, at least for assistants aiming to be head coach. I'm certainly not saying Mowen should be ignored here, but to look at those recent clashes to compare the two in isolation is pretty reductive and at best would be comparing them as forwards coaches, not potential head coaches.
