Queensland Reds 2026

I agree - Too big a step I think - both Bloomfeld and King probably need some more time in Super Rugby before the Lions. Wonder if Aiden Ross will feature ?
Oh yeah, forgot about him. Not much time between then and the chiefs last game. Is he even here training with the Reds yet? I'd say he would be looked at for the Aus/NZ team.

Social media had him in gym lifting weights, elbow seems almost good to go, might be short of a gallop though.

Will McCulloch is the other one who missed the entire season through injury but is back fit now.
No no no no no, beware of the social media post. We cannot pick someone who is not battle hardened and ready to rip into these Lions.

Who is the most successful assistant coach currently in the Australian rugby ecosystem?

It might be Ben Mowen (Brisbane's own)
I imagine he'll be a candidate, he's got a solid (though still a bit thin) base and seems pretty ambitious in his coaching career, but how are you measuring success there? I'm not sure Mowen has anywhere near enough to set him ahead of Hilton, who also has head coach experience and experience with the side.

Hilton is obviously the front runner and favourite, and probably his if he wants it (ie doesn't want the Wallaby assistant coach job through a World Cup)

But I think we should challenge the assumptions. Surely the best way to measure success in rugby union is the traditional way. Last two years Mowen's forwards have gone up against Hilton's.

I'm not sure that's a particularly traditional (or accurate) measure of success, at least for assistants aiming to be head coach. I'm certainly not saying Mowen should be ignored here, but to look at those recent clashes to compare the two in isolation is pretty reductive and at best would be comparing them as forwards coaches, not potential head coaches.

Benny needs more time.
Agreed - there's definitely a good coach in Mowen, but he needs to experience different styles of playing so that he's got the toolkit to change the team he's leading when things aren't working.

The only way Mowen should be thrust into the HC role in the next 5 years is with extremely experienced AC's providing him the support and guidance he will need as HC.

If the Reds have continued success next year, I'd be wanting Zane to stick around. I don't think it'll help the Reds changing coacing teams + most likely changing playing style twice in the space of 3-4 years. Continuity of how they Reds organisation wants to play should be the focus.

I can’t deny how much I enjoyed Linc’s 2011 with the complete disparate game plans built on who they were playing. I feel here however, much of the bitching is fans concerned about the WBs and on this thread I’m completely fine with the “style” and chuffed that we held our ground for another 12 months of Les.
I think could do that because he had Quade Cooper, I think he was a key piece in being able to plan for different teams.

Our 10's may get there one day, but I don't think they change each week at this stage of thier careers
