Yeah, like for quarter of a century.

This century they’ve won the most sporting titles across all sports, so in that regard they are I guess.

Ah. so he could have studied but wasn’t allowed to play Rugby at Riverview. Another interesting example of the philosophical differences between the schools Joker alluded to. Thanks for clarifying.

I had a chat with Phil and the current master of Rugby at the ‘wear your blazer day’ a few years back. Needless to say I brought a knife to a gun fight…

Thanks Joker. a beautiful story, I can only imagine the tension between the schools. Clearly a good decision by Joeys to offer that support to the view superstar and a silly decision by view not to help out one of their legends.

Shame to see rowing and rugby have to conflict like that. Always enjoyed the tall timber coming fresh from the boats to the line outs.

Amen Chaiman, good lads who learnt the lessons rugby had to teach in victory and defeat.

Some great coaching happening lower down, the boys are taking lessons from each week and applying themselves. Rugby, soccer, tennis or whatever, sport and education blending well.

Great write up, if my maths is right only about 11 points over 4 games from the top to the bottom of the table. Great season.

Indeed, they also don’t; -use poor behaviour in others as an excuse to behave poorly themselves.

Thanks Joker, I believe Jika often used to say ‘Be humble in victory, and gracious in defeat’

What I love about the culture around New Zealand school boy and men’s rugby, is that they respect themselves and their opponents so much, to the degree that they find ridiculing their opponents appalling. There is such honour and humility in their victories.

I’m with you solicitor. Weird how this poor Joeys bloke can be part of such a successful rugby school and still be so insecure about it all.

Probably, think some others have 1 win and a draw.

Shore 15A’s (Shore 16 New 5) I think. 14A’s and 13A Shore also won but don’t know the scores (they come out on Friday)

True, that would be hard if a master was being so shallow. it was surprising for me to see that the Shore teams were better drilled top to bottom In the younger age groups than New, but New are also owing the waterpolo and basketball at the moment so there’s that. You can’t be all things to all...

For what it’s worth (not much) I think you’re underestimating the quality of Shores academic system. It, like Joeys rugby, is world class. Stay dry out there people, interesting to see who are the masters of the wet game.

It’s an interesting discussion. Some on this forum claim that a bad a schoolboy rugby team is ‘embarrassing’ others say that below average results are. Priorities and decisions, good luck to all the lads on the weekend.
