The Conference System: Success or Failure?

Is referring to someone as being a "quota" considered okay in SA, because I'd have thought it could be considered demeaning to someone who is just doing their job? Do people cease being "quota" if the don't make errors?

Semi Final Qualifier 2: Crusaders v Sharks: Nelson

Only if you are talking about their attack. Their defense has improved markedly as the season has progressed (aside from the Cheetahs debacle) and is now close to being where it needs to be to win a final. The fact that they could keep a resurgent Hurricanes tryless is evidence of this...

Semi Final Qualifier 2: Crusaders v Sharks: Nelson

Thanks, I added that info to the OP as well. Wonder how the Sharks supporters feel about all-Kiwi officials?

Semi Final Qualifier 2: Crusaders v Sharks: Nelson

I think the Sharks and Crusaders match up fairly well. Both are strong across the park, and can adapt their style of play to match the conditions and their opponents. If the game was being played in Durban I'd back the Sharks, but given they must travel to NZ, I think the Crusaders should be...

Semi Final Qualifier 2: Crusaders v Sharks: Nelson

The top of the South Island is arguably the most beautiful part of NZ and has arguably the most comfortable climate in NZ.

Semi Final Qualifier 2: Crusaders v Sharks: Nelson

Should be an excellent match. The Crusaders may be able to potentially welcome back SBW, Sean Maitland, Fotuali'i and McCaw. This could improve their potency and bolster their leadership stocks. As for the Sharks, well I think most of SANZAR had written them off, assuming the Bulls would snare...

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

Sad to hear mate. Personally I'm enjoying this season more than ever. Especially the derbies, which I love. I hope that the team you support turns their fortunes around asap. Rugby success is usually cyclical. In 1996 my team the Crusaders came dead last and were the joke of the competition. Two...

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

Not keen to cite specific examples, but just pointing out that the old draw was inequitable too. The Crusaders win almost nine games out of ten at home, but only around 50% away. SO clearly playing them at home is a big disadvantage compared to playing them when they are away.

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

The draw will remain as is (ie. each team plays 8 derby games and 8 inter-conference games). I actually like this because it means shorter tours, especially for teams from SA. I used to pity them, having to endure 6 week tours of Australasia. People will argue that if teams don't all play each...

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

Has it really been though? I know 2009 and 2010 were arguably worse for the Crusaders, despite our shocking toll this season. I'd need some evidence before saying that this year has been worse than previous seasons.

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

Travel has always been a massive factor in Super Rugby. Why change that? If a team does enough to host a final they deserve some advantage.

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

I guess my point was that the system has been as bad as people such as myself initially thought it might be. And as for Murdoch, whilst I agree with your sentiment there are people that would argue that News Ltd's involvement in SANZAR rugby has been hugely beneficial to the code in the...

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

Yes. And I have found the extra round of local derbies extremely entertaining to watch.

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

Hi Dan. Yeah that would be an issue, but highly unlikely. I think there was just two weekends this season when the three conference leaders weren't also the top 3 teams overall. And the only reason I remember that was because my team, the Crusaders, was 4th despite having a point more than the...

The Conference System: Success or Failure?

Throughout this season there have been many vocal critics of the conference system. These critics have alleged that it has cheapened the finals format and assisted teams from supposedly weaker, less even conferences. However with one week of round-robin rugby to play, I think it's fairly...

Crusaders vs Blues: MATCH THREAD: Timaru - 2011R17

Kaino was quiet IMO. Ali Williams was very good and IMO played his way back into the ABs tonight.

    Waratahs 2012

Not a lot of love being shown for Elsom on this thread. Whilst I rate Mowen as a solid, if unspectacular S15 player, he's clearly not in the same class as Elsom. Rocky is the Wallaby captain and at his best he's one of the best loose forwards in world rugby. Rugby is a professional sport, and...

Crusaders vs Blues: MATCH THREAD: Timaru - 2011R17

Four Whitelock brothers are currently signed to the Canterbury Rugby Football Union and the Crusaders. Sam and George Whitelock have both been test capped. Adam Whitelock has 30 caps for the Crusaders and the youngest Luke is captain of the under 20s.
