RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

The ITM is still hemorrhagic players since a good player will only stay around 2-3 year waiting for Super teams then they entertain offshore contracts. Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

NZR distributes additional funds for grassroots which cannot fund the ITM Cup team. This money must be accounted for by the local union. Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

local players pay a sub of about $100 to play for their club but it's not forced on anyone and nobody who cannot pay is made to pay Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

Some teams manage to get their wage bills under the NZR funding so the local union contribution amounts to just a couple hundred thousand. Alot of local funding comes from pokies/gaming machines + beer sponsorship. The rest local businesses even the council. Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

ITM cup teams typically cost $1-2m a season to run with wages over half this cost. Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

The NZ clubs that needed bailing out (Otago and one or two others) had gotten into debt over stadium and land deals. They also were paying players far more than what they could afford based on what NZR funded them. NZR funds each Union around $1 million and less if they aren't in the top 14...

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

ARU has since taken more control over the NRC. None of us know the contractual details Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

Pulver made comments about the NRC being self funded and run by unions 3 years ago. Before he cancelled the license for the Stars and before he won an extra 25m in broadcast money that you believe should only go to those who already have more money Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

Even to keep in line with inflation folks. There is a new TV deal and you all assume the NRC is gonna lose out for no other reason than you want the ARU to not spend money on them. The ARU may just prioritise the NRC higher than you think. Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

There are many angles against your lines of argument. If all their hours of training and games are added up 5k may come out to less than minimum wage in Australia which has high living costs. RUPA would not wait while all other wages are raised - coaches, cleaners, managers, Super Player...

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

It is a special form of elitism to suggest that only Super Rugby players should be paid and the players playing in the commercial competition beside them should not. Or should do so for peanuts. Don't think the ARU shares your view, nor RUPA, nor the coaches, nor the agents nor the players...

this is why you see the Rebels a delicious Reds really utilising their NRC teams as extended training squads. I this case players need to train year round and need to be paid Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

picking a club player to slot into Super rugby for injury is not such a stretch if they are on a Semi-Pro contract that allows them to train year round Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

Super Clubs need to run what are called "wider training squads" to deal with injuries. This is where NZ and SA have an advantage because they have more Semi-Pro players training year round at a higher level. Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

I thought you followed the Annual Reports TWAS. All player payments have been increased including the Super Clubs salary cap Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

The dropping of the Sydney Stars in part signals an intention to be able to pay higher wages in a slimmed down competition Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk

RUPA supports a Draft System - Wayne Smith 'Australian'

The NPC in New Zealand has never been self funding. There was no Super Rugby back then and Rugby was not professional. The NRC players will be playing alongside Super players who just had their salaries raised by the ARU. There is no doubt the ARU will also raise wages for NRC players for...

it only costs roughly 2mill to pay them. There is money. They may start with 1mill Sent from my SM-A500L using Tapatalk
