Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

You were using one observation to argue that afl was purely played on Saturdays. "CLub AFL is played on a Saturday - it's on the ground next door where my daughter plays hockey. If their numbers are growing at the expense of club rugby, it sort of kills the argument that Sunday club rugby is...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

I was indicating that the boys, that I know, who play AFL do so on Sundays. You seem to quite good at the narky comments yourself. -"I think you need to take English language lessons." My desire is for as many kids as possible playing rugby at the level to which they aspire. I don't see how...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

I am sorry, I misinterpreted the point you were trying to make. I thought that you were using an exhaustive sample of one to induce that kids AFL is only played on Saturdays. It now appears that point you were trying to make is that your daughter plays hockey.

That would appear to be a rather small competition. But the G,H,I,J,Ks at many traditional rugby schools are now days euphemistically referred to as the "football" teams.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

I discovered it from your post. But anecdotally its played on Sundays in Sydney and when I googled my local club, they seemed to play all their games on Sunday as well. Possibly AFL is played on both days.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

The school games tend to be in the morning and the club games in the afternoons and they manage to fit their rep games in as well. My son probably won't move to soccer as he is a crap actor and can't do death scenes.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Really? So there are NO AFL GAMES on Sunday? But I feel much more confident about Rugby's future having discovered that AFL is only played on one ground in Sydney.

Thank you, you have made my points much more eloquently than I could.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

The point I was making was that denying kids at private schools the ability to compete in the Sydney club competition will lead to many of those kids not playing rugby at all. The schools by and large do not have the resources to train those kids who are not superstars to an adequate level to...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Rugby isn't compulsory at these schools, sport is. The schools don't care if they play rugby or soccer. The schools don't necessarily have the best coaching in the world, not every teacher aspires to coach a super rugby side. Much of their development comes from club rugby, where parents are...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Lots of other kids play two games a week, instead of a second game of rugby most of them play league, some play soccer, others play afl or basketball. Playing 2 games of rugby or rugby and a game of league will improve kids rugby skills more quickly. As kids improve they tend to like it more and...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

One of the problems here is that the world hasn't stood still in the last decade. There are more kids in private schools these days, maybe even some of the Raptor kids are at private schools. You just might find moving to Saturdays further reduces the number of players and viable teams. The key...

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

In my son's rugby team there are three types of players, those that go to private schools, those that play league on Saturday and those that play other sports on Saturday. Moving the competition to Saturdays would create a lot of recruiting opportunities.

I don't understand why so many people seem to get so worked up about private school kids playing in the SJRU competition, and possibly being in rep teams. Would you prefer them to go to soccer or AFL?
