    Unpopular opinion thread

NSWRU and Shute Shield are to entirely blame for the mess that is Rugby in this country. Not the ARU. :) Well, not entirely, but take a look at the NSWRL back in the day. They didn't wait for anyone to green light taking Sydney league comp and turning it into a national comp. Shute Shield...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Maybe I'm morbid but I wonder how NZRU are feeling right now. In their view Australian fans having a tantrum about going it alone in a National Comp might make them laugh to themselves. But it seems over the course on the last few days/weeks South Africa may be the ones that totally scuttle...
  3. The Snout

    Unpopular opinion thread

Rugby in this country is getting everything it deserves for it's attitude of "the right crowd and no crowding". And the complete lack of ability to compete against New Zealand, failing to win even a game this year in Super Rugby and a Bledisloe in a decade and a half, is a direct commentary on the...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Indeed, it's so bloody simple why the game is running out of sight behind the other codes. Take a look at Sydney, a 'stronghold'. Ha. NRL and AFL in prime time several nights per week. Shute Shield ? buried away with no prime time exposure. The Waratahs ? A whole city getting one game every...

    Rugby World Cup 2019

Ireland are quality and Japan will be on fire determined to get out of the group on home soil, so Scotland are screwed at this point and will be the shock exit victim this time around. Australia did fine, Wales will be a good battle and the rest will be needing good game play from us. Group...

Pissed myself laughing. Well done mate.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Australia doesn't need to go into a Trans Tasman comp with a partner which is blackmailed or bought there kicking and screaming. If it isn't the #1 choice for both parties then it wouldn't be a workable relationship long term. New Zealand is a pretty small place. Much better to offer $100K...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Can only speak for myself. While I want the Rebels to stay so I have a team to go watch, if they choose the Force to stay, I certainly won't have any bone to pick or chip with any Force fans or the Force themselves. I have nothing but good will there.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

48 - 72 hours for the process. That's something at least I'll credit, no drawing it our for months as may be the case in the SA process.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think if any comment about Japan was to be made then perhaps Andy Marinos the CEO of SANZAAR would be the guy to make it as it's a SANZAAR issue. It would be a lot more subtle that saying a partner is on notice. I just think it's a poor day for Tew to saying anything like that. Of course...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Tew went on radio first thing Monday morning and made it know Japan are on notice. Don't see anywhere any announcement by SANZAAR to that end (happy to be corrected), only Tew. If SANZAAR did indeed tell Japan that, then SANZAAR should comment on it, if it's required to be made public at all...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

For heaven's sake, we need to get out in 2020. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11835387 "Tew told the Radio Sport Breakfast that New Zealand's top players believe there are too many local derbies under the new 15-team format, one of a number of reasons why...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

They look like a bunch of guys checking if the guy next to them in the urinal has a bigger cock. In the case of Pulver, the answer is yes. And also something else called 'balls'.
  14. The Snout

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Even if the Force or Rebels survive, this process before announcement could take months and by then the players may well have moved on overseas or whatever for security. So even if a team survives it will still be affected by this.
  15. The Snout

    Where to for Super Rugby?

End of June SA are hinting it will take them to decide. So this could drag out a while yet if our process is anything like that.
  16. The Snout

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Yep. Something like, 'The ARU need to now form a study group to go through the teams here in Australia to work out which synergies align with our economies of scale to produce the best fit for our developing yet agile sporting environment to provide best fiscal practices.....' blah blah fucking...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

If the Brumbies are cut lets see if they "understand the stance taken by SANZAAR and the ARU", then.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

So what's the feeling in SA these days with the fans ? I mean they are screwing around deciding if they will cut 2 teams, are the fans there up in arms ? Or are they a bit over Super Rugby as well with teams disappearing for weeks.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Rugby is no different. The FFA, CA and netball compete for eyeballs and money as do us. They recognized a need for change in their own sports and have reacted and made change. And two of those have an international presence with professional options as well. Local content works in this...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Sums up my feelings too. Other organisations like the Women's AFL, Big Bash, A-League and Netball seem to come in and start local comps from the ground up. You could say Netball has remade themselves twice in the last dozen years. But 'Rugby is different'.
