Careful... crabs can be quite admirable when dealing with some of life's challenges, such as injuries caused by predators!

I think that's 100% correct for Aussie rules and soccer. But the relatively high standard of schoolboy rugby may also be a reflection of the current standard of club rugby (especially youth) and the investment of the powers that be in the grassroots.

Think the seconds drew 12-12. Some very disappointing discipline in the early opens games vs High by the Newington boys. Immature and unnecessary.

Big wins to New in 13As and 14As, 15As won 28-7. Some good wins in lower grades for 13s and 14s too.

Massive BBQ news from Stanmore, the area near the stand has been refurbished and the BBQ set up seems to be a lot more amenable to some new creations. Not sure what was on offer today other than traditional fare, but it looked great and I'm expecting big things.

Big day at Stanmore with all the senior New teams playing at the senior school, other than the 14s who will be out at Tempe. Almost all games vs Scots. Games on both Old Boys fields from 8am (all 13s, 15s and 16s), and the 6ths start proceedings at 10am on with the first XV clash at 3.15...

I assumed that they were already 15 (turning 16 this year), that would place them in either year 10 or 11 given the time of year if they start in the windows listed by the dept of education...

I don't think it would be that big a problem - there are, or should be, 15 year olds in year 11 (you would expect this year's year 11s to be born late June 2001-June 2002 for this year with the entry dates). I know lots of kids are held back for a range of reasons and some repeat years so there...

Juggling multiple Saturday commitments but at Stanmore most weeks. Will chime in when I have something useful! Only have a peripheral insight into 1sts/2nds (with stronger opinions belonging in that other thread...) but the program is chugging along nicely. Think the best signs for the program...

Newington firsts won 36-7, think the second score was 62-0.

This is a great story and reinforces how some of the cultures of identifying "talent" early are built on poor foundations, given how some flourish outside of those systems, and many within those systems don't make it. That applies to most sports I've been involved with. Hopefully not too...

Class of 2017 - Where are they going?

Tom Yassmin - Utah! Good luck to the lad. https://www.foxsports.com.au/nfl/meet-thomas-yassmin-the-australian-schoolboys-winger-turned-college-football-tight-end/news-story/dd69530561eb4cd8f7d4213b4d3f4567

I don't think I can pass the test that B&W posted! Not an old boy, don't read plaques when I go there generally. I know who the new bench on Buch is dedicated to. But it's fair to say that one of the new lads put on a bit of show on Buchanan today after play commenced, with 60 out of a total of...

Lots of excitement over new faces at Stanmore over the last couple of days. Turns out that the cohort of talented musicians/debaters that seem to turn up every year in year 10 and 11 coincidentally also happen to be very talented rugby players. Again.

The Newington 13As have just completed an unbeaten season with a win at Kings. Lots of smiles, very positive group. Opens may be a different story. :)

i thought New gave a reasonable account of themselves! But I agree, Scots were too good across the park in every facet, even when the game was in the balance. Scots clearly had another gear to shift into, and made New pay for defensive lapses in the second half. Enjoyable day nevertheless...

Despite the mismatch on paper and form, there's an interesting sub-text to the game at Stanmore. In the corresponding game last year Newington snatched a last minute try to win the match and there were some unsporting scenes from one of the disappointed visitors. Safe to say it hasn't been...

Also a very big day at New with "Back to Newington" day on. Should be a great atmosphere if you're in the inner west. Lots of stalls, and food put on by various support groups. My advice - head to the "Taste of Tonga" food stall, the food has been brilliant in the past and a great group of...
