Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

May be a few matching appointments at doctors surgeries?

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2014

From what I could see it still seemed, however, most of those NSW boys made it into Schoolboys, while QLD made up more of the A's. Had there been no A side, like this year, then the numbers would not have appeared so "even".

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2014

Completely agree that you need to play to show your skills, and understand that shadows 99% of the time don't get called in. Just intrigued by the nominating of Shadow players who are and aren't in the Combined side. Seems to me that one or the other makes more sense.

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2014

So what happens if the required shadow is sitting on the bench for Combined, as it is now in some instances? The named shadow misses his State jumper to another boy called in?

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2014

Sorry, I know that that there are no allocated spots. What I mean is QLD have not named any shadow players for its two teams, while NSW has. Some of these shadow players are also named in the Combined team, while others are not. Who is the higher ranked player? I find it strange that a boy...

if that's the case then he's been done over, but I really can't see that the guys who moved him from bench GPS1 to play 9 GPS3 would not know who they were watching. Don't they use team sheets? If they are just marrying names up to jerseys using the program the whole thing's a farce.

12 boys from NSW (10 run on) and 11 from QLD (5 run on) Of the 11 QLD boys, 8 from GPS, 2 from AIC and 1 from CSS. Of those from QLD, 10 players were named in a team for the trials...whether they actually played last weekend I don't know. No 7 Koortz (BSHS) is the only one who wasn't named...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

You are perhaps still under the mistaken belief that participation and/or performance in the trials had anything to do with selection.

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

Didn't think Asiata (1- GPS1) did that much, Wall (9 - GPS3) didn't play either day (subbed by Dempsey - originally 21 GPS1, who went alright), thought the Ganita (4) from CCS trialed as well as any other, thought Te Rupe (13 - GPS 2) has been extremely hard done by, thought Helms (16 - GPS 2)...

QLD Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2014

Based on the games I saw over the two days, think some of these selections had the jumper already in the cupboard at home and needn't have actually turned up.

Dark Shark, I think Gunter at BBC was only 15 when in the 1sts last year.

However, during the games ahead they are their coaches option No 1, so heads up boys and show them what you've got when you get the chance!

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

So half of GPS 1 is picked on reputation and form from a competition 12 months ago, and the rest of GPS is made up of boys who actually trialed. Geez, they reckon the Aussie cricket team is hard to get into....?

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

I'm not taking any offence, but I guess we will have to differ in our opinions. I certainly mean no offence to any player past or present. All of the boys I have met have been true gentlemen. I, like you, was just putting my opinion forward. You slightly misunderstood me, though. It's the boys...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

Sorry King, have to disagree. While I'm not naive enough to ignore that it is all about winning for the schools nowadays, I think it is to the detriment to the game as a whole that boys who have no interest in the game prior to and after their time at the school are brought in to bolster team...

A small point: they are the Queensland Junior Rugby Union State Championships, of which the BJRU is just one participating union. And as to relevance, I think we'll see a few of the boys competing wearing GPS jumpers next year.

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

Yes, sorry, complete brain fade. That was the BGS game. I actually agree with you re IGS. They ran a couple of boys on as subs that made a huge difference to the game.
  20. S

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

The game changed when IGS broke the laws of the game by choosing to run a back on instead of an injured prop and then calling for uncontested scrums. They should have played one man down if they could not or would not replace the front-rower with another
