Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

Apologies I was replying to HJ's post 489. I am still working on my posting skills Cheers

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

It cost us $400-$500 per player to attend country or state championships. More if they made a state team so JGC didn't seem unreasonable.

Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

My understanding is that the JGC u15 and u17 teams are 30 person squads made up of equal numbers of 13,14, 15 & 16 years olds. So unless I am mistaken the loss of opportunity for a particular age group doesn't exist.

    National U/16 Championships 2014

I am sure that is true. Do you think the absence of an u16 competition might see changed views in the future? If not what elite opportunity are they looking for? State rep teams selection? I think that's best done at the open level. There have been many comments about the shortcomings of the...

    National U/16 Championships 2014

Junior Gold is open to the best players from 24 regions across Australia. They are talented and the U17 sides contain mostly the same boys that would have played in the U16 competition. I am interested to understand if there is a need for anything more "elite" at these ages. For the older boys...

    National U/16 Championships 2014

I don't see any ongoing need for the u16 nationals. The Junior Gold Cup seems to be providing the same or better opportunities for engagement and development of a larger group (ages 13&14, 15 &16) of talented juniors. It would be a great shame to see any change that diminished the ongoing...

Oh dear, this is what we feared in the absence of sound and transparent governance.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

I know of a country zone where the u16 and u18s play under the auspices of the senior's competition. This approach has the benefits that Hugh has identified with the seniors recognsing the benefit of supporting there future player base. Its not perfect but it is improving player participation.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Great situation analysis. Couldn't agree more. Seems to me like there are plenty of win/win opportunities. Beyond creating awareness how do we make this happen? Is there a forum where schools and clubs (including colts) could work together? Perhaps this has been tried before?

Don, can you elaborate on the strategic plan please. Is there an overall objective that these 4 strategies are designed to achieve? What does provide administrative resources to support affiliates mean? For what outcomes and functions do they need resources? I gather better communication is the...

    Australian Junior Rugby Union

Lastly "Should the U12 and U19 age groups be included in the Junior Rugby Representative Pathway and what would this mean?" My observation is that U12’s is a great age for commencing rep rugby at a zone or regional level. I support that state representation commences at U15 and not before. I...

More "Is it necessary to hold all age group (U13-17) State Championships at the one venue and at the same time of the year? I can observe that NSW Juniors hold successful State Championships with age groups split between multiple venues over the June long weekend. Similarly NSW Country Juniors...

Next "What is the role of the QJRU? Is its primary role to co-ordinate State Championships and the representative teams that flow out of those championships?" I support state junior organisation roles being limited to the running of their competitions and respective representative teams. All...

    Australian Junior Rugby Union

Hi Don. I have picked out a few of your questions which I feel confident in responding to with ideas. Firstly "How do we put processes in place to guarantee integrity around selection?" The commitment to integrity is an essential first step. Next is demonstrating the same in a publicly...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2013

I see your point. I am not so confident I have my facts right now. It would make more sense to keep TAS, Grammar and High as a combined round like last year with the teams graded. Not doubt someone will set us straight.

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2013

I understand that its the 1sts and 2nds that will play the 10 rounds - home & away. The 3rds and all other teams across all age lower age groups will play the one round of 9 teams.
