The Other Qualifier - Sharks vs Clan - Saturday

Highlanders put up a better fight than I was expecting there. Given that was probably the biggest forwards demolition of the entire season, the backs did a freakish job keeping them alive. Way better team to watch but just a few grades below up front. Hard to see the Sharks progressing any...

Qualifying Final 2: Brumbies v Chiefs. Sat. 19/07

Cracking game. Wish White didn't decimate Kerr-Barlow so badly for my dream team's sake but great for the Brumbies. Tahs will be nervous now I'd think. Brumbies presumably already on the bus to Sydney.

The Other Qualifier - Sharks vs Clan - Saturday

    8 * 12.5 * 1.5 * 7. Yep, 1000s pretty close.

The Other Qualifier - Sharks vs Clan - Saturday

I think the main thing preventing this from being a complete blowout like the Highlanders' last 2 games is the Sharks don't score that many tries. It's hard to imagine the Highlanders being in the contest though. The only thing keeping them in single figure odds is their win mid-year.

Qualifying Final 2: Brumbies v Chiefs. Sat. 19/07

And Sweeney the surprise there. They've both thrown one curve ball in the back 3!

Coleman starting is surprising. Rest as expected.

Kudos to whoever found Speight to replace them. Especially in Fox!

    Reds v Waratahs, round 19 2014

No matter how much the Tahs talk it up, there is pretty much no way they'll be motivated to throw everything at this game. Their biggest concern is surviving injury-free. This is it for the Reds. Last hurrah in front of the home crowd in the year's biggest draw card. It's easy to look at the...

The road home - Super rugby 2014

Last year's GF replay sounds like an appetising quarter. I suspect the Brumbies will be too strong at home but should be good to watch. Then they'll meet the Tahs in Sydney to determine which Aussie team makes the final. If the Brumbies make it without their 2 best players - God help the rest of...

The road home - Super rugby 2014

If the Chiefs win, they're in. Brumbies vs Force then becomes a playoff. Winner in, loser out. If the Chiefs lose, they're out. Winner of Brumbies vs Force goes through and loser can still get in if they finish within 7. Otherwise Canes get through. Either way, Tahs, Saders, Sharks and...

One very notable omission there. Any word on Izzy?

The road home - Super rugby 2014

Seems nothing has changed since the break. Same order with the same query and almost exactly the same points as anticipated (minus a couple for the bottom 3). I still think that is the most likely order. Tahs already 1st. Saders 100s chance to lose to the Klan at home so they'll get 2nd...

If I win, I'll be getting flights from Brisbane. Extended the lead a little last week. A lot can happen in 5 weeks but surely I'll be right. Have told mates to free up that weekend. People risking Coles this week? Not sure what to make of his injury chat.

    Wallaby Watch 2014

That's a good side. The only surprise in the starting XV is Carter over Jones. I think the rest everyone anticipated. The bench has a few smokies. Cowan over Sio, Phipps over Genia and Horwill over Jones/Skelton. I imagine those are mostly rotational and we'll see them swapped in later tests.

Is Payten generally reliable with this stuff? I don't think anyone would have been surprised to see White start but Genia has gotta be a moral for that bench halfback role surely!

    Fantasy Super Rugby 2014

3 weeks off! Not going to know what to do with myself Fridays to Sundays. Currently sitting 2nd in Fox, 66 points behind Fiona Webb. That comp still looks very open though and it's quite possible someone could even win from outside the top 100 at this point. Got a 144 point break from 2nd...

The road home - Super rugby 2014

I think there are 8 teams left in it. There remains a faint mathematical possibility that the Bulls and Blues can make the finals but in both cases, it is supremely unlikely. I'm expecting the Tahs and Saders to win 2 of their remaining 3 matches and collect 2 bonus points each to finish on 53...

    Wallaby Watch 2014

    This is the team I'd pick: 1. Sio (assuming Slipper is out) 2. Moore 3. Kepu 4. Jones 5. Simmons 6. Fardy 7. Hooper 8. Palu 9. White 10. Foley 11. Cummins 12. To'omua 13. Kuridrani 14. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) 15. Folau 16. TPN 17. Cowan (Sio if Slipper plays) 18. Ryan (previously Alexander) 19. Skelton 20...

Any chance Meyer overrules White and rules out Steyn?

And without playing, White just put the halfback position beyond doubt as the only available goal kicking option.
