The finish line was defined by 2 spherical orange buoys, between which the 8 lanes are theoretically evenly spaced. It is the responsibility of the umpire in the official boat to ensure each crew stays in their respective lane. There was a strong crosswind that made it difficult for crews to...

the biggest problem with the Waratah Shield was the lack of interest from the bigger private schools who focussed on their GPS, CAS, ISA etc comps. In its nearly 60 year history, only 18 schools have won it and half of them only one each. It came to be dominated by St Eddies in Canberra in...

Looks unlikely that the NSW Gen Blue teams will get to play their games in Queensland this weekend. Some of the players are surely based in the eastern suburbs lockdown LGAs and the Qld border's slammed shut anyway. NSW Gen Blue I were due to play Qld U18 Maroon at 3pm preceded by Gen Blue II...

The President's XVs (for those not aware) are the U16 sides that will be playing a series of games over the coming Saturday/Sunday at Daceyville against CAS etc. These boys are a mix of 1stXV, 2ndXV and U16A players who meet the age criterion - they are generally Yr10 and the younger Yr11 boys...

for those interested in stats from tonight's game, particularly after all the banter from the CAS boys about how their huge pack would dominate the set piece, here are some interesting numbers: total scrums 22 - 10 GPS putins and 12 CAS putins GPS wins 10/10 on own putin plus 4 tightheads and a...

Like the much-quoted financial services disclaimer "past performance is not an indicator of future performance", and this applies also to schoolboy rugby players. I've not seen Jack Bowen in action, and I'm sure he's a very fine player, but other kids grow and develop their games at different...

...presume you meant "aren't that interested"... (bit ironic when you're criticising kids for their spelling)

Well spotted BBQ! He was indeed playing #9 against Joeys a couple of weeks ago - see program. Interesting to see both #13 Kalokalo and #15 Ollie Cummins have pulled out of GPS 1sts, presumably due to injury, leaving Scots with only 2 reps - McMullen at #10 and #13 Lancaster, the latter making...

don't think so BBQ - not if you believe the program. Riverview's excellent #9 Dan Nelson was playing in his accustomed position against Joeys, and the #10 was one Jack Matthews. Maybe Bowen was playing under an alias?

looking forward particularly to the forwards' clash, with the GPS pack having a Joeys front row and a Riverview 4-5-8 with another Joeys flanker up against a Waverley-dominated CAS pack, it will be the clash of the Catholics.

This program would make a great trivia question: name the player who represented Australia 17 times in Rugby League? (Wing) name the player who played 48 Tests for the USA? (Hercus) Wallabies? (Waugh, Lyons)

Max Jorgo is back and firing on all cylinders. Also Joeys first-choice 9 Ben Dalton is back from his broken hand from earlier this season, which has prevented him playing any of the trial games.

can't argue with that - it was a great game of rugby, which View won right on full time to take a leaf out of Joeys playbook from recent seasons. Joeys might bemoan the yellow at the end, but View also got a couple of yellows, so call that square. The final round at HH looks like it might be...

agree with that comment re TAS, INP. TAS playing their 1sts and 2nds and all age groups from U16 to U13 - great to see. Also, good to see the resurgence of Grammar rugby, and we all hope this is a harbinger of things to come. Premiers in the 3rd Grade Comp last year and off to a solid start...

Joeys left winger is now listed by his preferred first name of Bryan Jorgensen. Oscar is his second name. He's one of the biggest players in the (admittedly small) Joeys lineup and is only in Year 10.
