These are not professional players they are schoolboys and for all the very positive aspects of their game there are a couple of less than perfect things that have to be managed. What I would prefer to see is real leadership from the sidelines. The game at this level cannot be only about...

Well said Snort. The Cranbrook 1sts are a very disciplined and confident team. Their structure sees them make use of every one of their 15 players. There was a lot of kicking in the first half but it looked more like an indication of just how calculating that team play - very mature. They...

Even then I'd suggest that 10 and 12 are more than well covered by teams that are yet to lose a game this year let alone not winning one yet. There will undoubtedly be standouts in all teams but after three games, Waverley's performance has to indicate that they will struggle with selections.

Antony published this Cranbrook link a few weeks back... thank you. Do any of the other schools do anything similar? Good memory joggers and they are a good complement to the match reports.

I've spoken very positively about Cranbrook's 14 and 15 who both oozed confidence against Waverley as did their other 11 (injured?) in the Barker game. And then you have Renton, the only other try scorer in that Barker game who I thought was better in that tougher contest (as opposed to...

As the score line suggests the Barker game was a much tougher test for Cranbrook than Waverley. How poorly Waverley played is more about how well that Cranbrook pack battered them from start to finish. Barker was able to compete across the park with Cranbrook particularly their backline that...

Cranbrook changed their approach in the 2nd half and kicked far more often for the line out rather than the penalty. They kept the ball in play and put on 33 points to zero in the 2nd. Agreed, Waverley's defence was stronger in the first half but Cranbrook's kicking was a better option for...

I only caught the 2nd half of the 2nds game and I think Cranbrook’s kicking in general play in this game let them down a couple of times also. In the end Waverley came very close to stealing the win with a great break in their own half stopped well into Cranbrook's 22 only through a solid...

I thought the Cranbrook No.15 had a terrific game. He returned a kick and from well outside the 60 meter line and handled the ball at least 3 times for the new 11 to score untouched. A tough first game for 11 who had a couple of big handling hiccups but great dive over the line for this one.
