    Sydney Subbies 2025

As someone who has a loooooong season of Saturdays ahead, I concur with the above.

Keep in mind that several of the Div 2 clubs are doing alright as well. It comes down to critical mass. However, what the Colts issue shows is that we're not aligned in terms of our ability to keep people in the game.... a topic I've only covered 2 or 3 hundred times ;) And even then: some...

Clubs out this way have done that for years ;) Valley last year had anywhere from Holroyd to Coogee! The thing that gets most eastern clubs is the speed change from old suburbs to new suburbs; we have people turn up at 12:30PM for a 2PM kickoff some days, because they think the traffic out...

I will once again contrast this to RL - they have a set squad size, and once they hit that, you need to either play next team down at that club, or, if that isn't an option, play elsewhere. In this, the difference is cultural - no better, no worse. They simply have different aims.

Many moons ago, Div 4 was 3 Grades no Colts. But that was back in the days of 5+Colts 4+Colts 3+Colts 3 2 1

Meanwhile, the Halligan Cup WhatsApp is littered with a barrage of request for games from clubs of all sizes. This indicates there are players. It might be that everyone is just looking for exactly the level of game time and opposition they want. I get that it is a tough sell for some; an old...

On the other hand, it gave clubs certainty about the requirements; trying to get back to a "normal" season of full home and away so there could be a fair Club Championship in place to contest - regardless of any concerns over promotion or relegation. I'm thinking about rewarding clubs for...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

Speaking of competition structures: I was talking to a smart cookie today - stalwart of the Subbies landscape - who opined that Premier Rugby should look at a change of model. While I was in favour of the Scorched Earth approach ;) he came with a far more measured suggestion. Each Premier club...

I didn't say easy. I could find the players in this area without too much trouble, but I don't have playing kit ready to roll off the shelf or a coach and manager to make it happen right now.

Yet we don't have a situation where every SRU club has had XVs women despite multiple years of promises and warehousing of Mens and Colts teams. Premier Clubs like to brag about running DOs for their own for local connections, yet leave the women's game to rot on the vine. Womens Tens is the...

I think once CC points are given due weight, First Division clubs are going to scramble to recruit, which IMHO is only a good thing. I reckon I could get a womens team together between now and April 12th, but don't have the equipment or the personnel to run it - particularly if sending them to...

    Shute Shield Colts 2025

TBF that assumes a level of desire to work together for the greater good, and I've noticed SRU clubs are very much not that. Further: NSW Rugby appears to have zero say in how SRU conducts itself.

    17 clubs - that's awesome. Will assume it has to be a couple of divisions. Not quite sure how Northern Suburbs fit in there? UOW will do some travel! 4 x Div 1 4 x Div 2 3 x Div 3 1 x Div 4 (Brothers - Sisters? ;) ) 3 x Div 6

Hard to judge as I don't know who they were missing and what some of the other clubs are doing. Clearly an outfit that has played together a lot, and have good fitness. Considering the top 3 Clark Cup sides are no longer there (Irish, Merrylands, Oysters) it'll probably come down to retention...

For us it was shooting straight down the M7 and then the short turnoff to Wilton.

Renegades went to Yattenden today. Bit of confusion with the grades over 4 periods. Renegades played 2, 1, 2, 1 Hills played 2, 2, 1, 1 So on a couple of those periods were relatively easy for the first grade sides. When it was 2nd v 2nd and 1st v 1st they were quite good matchups

The league player thing explains why we got one of our guys dumped on his head last year, I suppose.
