I’m a fan of the premier clubs, have been lucky enough to play at one. But so many that follow them have no idea what’s happening to clubs and competitions outside them. There is a perception that they are doing well, so the sport must be thriving whereas a little bit of the truth of it is that...
Just postpone the round and push everything back a week. It’s not that hard, there is a lot more consequences for rugby in Australia if the tv provider isn’t happy than some club to push things back a week. I play touch footy and they cancel all the time for weather, it just gets pushed back a...
That’s not remotely the same. It’s like NRL putting state of origin the same time Burleigh bears plays North’s. Other than having a community name in common the rugby clubs aren’t remotely like Penrith or Broncos
NRL games out rate the wallabies games, so it’s a simple decision from a tv perspective. The same advertising will likely target a large part of the cross over audience. It would make little sense to have both games clash to maximize their potential spend. These decisions are what drives the...
I agree. Many just think fat kids, but the reality of professional rugby can just be kids identified to a position at a young age and then going through the right nutrition and weights program. Look at Dan Palmer, he’s an absolute rake away from his professional career but was a good scrummager...
The only question that should be asked of the Beale signing is
- does he improve the playing squad?
- does he make players better around him on the field?
- does he drive professional standards directly related to rugby?
maybe answering these the answer is no. That’s perfectly reasonable. I...
The Stan venue thing doesn’t mean much when people still don’t choose to play the games in pubs etc. I went to the sporting globe on the Gold Coast the other week when a reds game was on. Maybe 10 TVs with sport on and not a single one was playing the rugby. QLD is supposed to be a heartland for...
Absolutely ridiculous that the Drua player that tried to rearrange Mafi’s nose via a headbutt only got 2 weeks. There has been players suspended this season for 4 weeks for an accidental high tackle. So strange
Isn’t most of that wage covered by 3rd party? Maybe I’m wrong, but if so, safe to say it’s money that wouldn’t of found its way into the current players hands.
Also on the league signings, we have signed about 5 of them in the last decade, hardly an obsession as many think. It’s one of those cliche quotes from rugby quarters without any real reality to it.
They are professional athletes and already train in some capacity 50 weeks of the year, so I don’t think playing in the summer would have any real impact on their experience. The real question would be if the amateur game moved with it
I know he’s close to the rebels inner circle but he’s fairly reasoned with his articles but Geoff Parkes yesterday wrote that don’t believe everything RA are pushing in the media and that they could be embarrassed with what comes out. Plus RA actively trying to play some games in the background...
Now the bar isn’t high and he has a lot more consistency because his past doesn’t hold much credence but I actually think Uelese is putting together his best season so far and might of been the best of an ordinary bunch this season.
Yeh I think he had a small train and trial type deal or academy deal with the Dragons. Not sure what it was but think he was in their system for a short period of time before being released.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was one of the highest 100+ number of players over this amount of time. It’s actually not something to be proud about, as it shows churn in players.
Just makes you wonder just how terrible the systems in Australia are.
This wouldn’t have been signed off without World Rugby approval and Mark Evans (Drua CEO, former Melb Storm, Harlequins and Saracens) is one of the best operators in rugby. I know he has a lot of opinions on rugby in...
The Japanese clubs don’t earn much money, they are just propped up by rich companies. Many of these teams have fallen apart in recent years because the business decides it won’t keep making a loss in the rugby department because it brings little in.
The French clubs as well are only propped up...
Again I have no issues with this being a thing, but there is obviously kick on consequences potentially and to me that seems to be RA to deal with through a decision that isn’t their own. Perhaps the English want to tour, that’s probably the only remaining side that would attract any sort of...
