Great example. Knox stayed up and pride (or other reasons) have led to a downfall. One or two too many seasons "Cluching" at straws.
RE: Epping not playing 1s.... Blokes getting flogged by 50 each week will quit the game entirely. Agreed. That being said not fielding a 1s means that Epping's...
Assign some of the subbies budgeting to marketing on socials. Invest more in the NSW Rugby TV promotions and audience reach. Partner with someone to do podcast style interviews or at least blogs. Rep games. Shute Shield or Tahs curtain raiser fixtures. Night Games. Stan/Nine Network has an...
Actually agree with both Div 1 and Div 2 comps this year.. Only potential exception may have been St Pats to stay up and Forest down to play in derby v Newport :) McCormack will be doing his best to make sure that Subbies is on the rise, so watching him to see what changes he makes.
Challenge...
Agree this is a problem. Timing is hard here as clubs don't really know what numbers they will have until 2 weeks before round 1. But setting the expectation earlier may have helped give them time to recruit?
Really? It is a constant discussion point that clubs have decisions made for them and don't get the full picture as to why these decisions are made.
Few ideas;
- Introduction of womens teams?
- Work with fixtures incl. kick off times to coordinate with time slots to attract supporters for a...
1. Absolutely Agree mate! Personally, I think this should be a sub committee or a group run outside of the board so that clubs feel like there is a mediator.. Not that I don't think Subbies will be able to put together the effort, if they like the idea theyll be able to execute. But its also...
IMO its time to stop "assuming" we have the answers.
Unfortunately, it seems that the board or at least some people that have authority are making decisions with the common opinion that the clubs do not no best. They are of the opinion that they know best which, in previous times, is probably...
Good points. I think it would need to be in windows.
Maybe;
Round 1 + 2 Pre-Season (Lower Div Teams usually have 1 grade and play trials)
Round 3 Wet Weather Round
Semi Finals and GF Post Season?
What would need to happen do you think to make it realistic?
Concerns around having Div 1 vs Div 4 teams is obvious. But do they trial against each other anyway? Could there be some restrictions around 1st Grades being unable to compete in 2nd round?
Throwing a big idea out here.
Green and Gold Rugby Forum to sponsor a NSW Community Cup for Subbies Clubs from Sydney, Newcastle and Central Coast to compete in a pre-season or mid season FA Cup Style Competition. Sponsors to put together a prize money and clubs get rewards for how deep they...
As a reset, it would be great to see this in action.
Would be an exciting way to drive new viewers to the Subbies Super Cup. Or something to reassignment of clubs.
This or the FA cup style knockout would bring some excitement and make a little bit of noise in community rugby.
May not come back..
They absolutely threw everything at it. Just tough for blokes to jump up the grades and get good ball against what is usually a good 1s scrum anyway.
Div 2 Grand Final day was awesome.
My headlines;
4s Lindfield and UNSW WOW what a way to kick it off. Andrew (President of Lindfield) in his last dance up against Nic Syks (President of UNSW - also one of the best blokes in rugby) up against each other in a CRACKER. Big come from behind win...
Tackling player number issues also means that less grades in each Div is naturally going to happen. But planning ahead and having stronger competitions instead of stronger clubs is the right approach. Unless we want to go down the "feeder" path, this is unavoidable. Rather than scraping 4 grades...
Also for 2024 club alignment.. Honestly, I think that pre-determining anything is going to be the wrong approach.The only thing that can be agreed upon is the size of the comp to allow for scheduling and field allocation.
Subbies needs a reset. And so does Premier rugby in Sydney.
That means...
Credit to the two props that battled out the final minutes. Combined age of 80+ years up against a ruthless UNSW forward pack.
There isn't any doubt that they were punching above their weight (literally) and those Allen brothers the real deal. 8 was also an absolute pest and rattled majority...
