    Sydney Subbies 2017

Yes and no... Everything else needs to be right for a crappy ground to be glossed over. A great ground helps (but equally can't gloss over crappy culture etc). Trust me, I was at Waverley when our training ground was #2 and terrible. It didn't help. It didn't help we were being belted every...

    Sydney Subbies 2016

The whole thing is pathetic. Having four teams in the Finals gave Waverley a lot more flexibility if they so chose, but I've never heard a club targeting a 2nd Grade when they would of had a genuine shot at 1st grade. And even if it didn't then they are still bound by the rules and have to...

As chance would have it I played in the first team Rayne coached in Melbourne way back when (I can't remember exactly). Third Grade for the mighty Power House. He was a great coach then, and went from 3rd Grade to Assistant 1st Grade Coach. What I remember I played in a position was that he...

It's safe to say, it's sucks for everyone if this happens. For the oppo, the players that miss out on playing, and for everyone else, who'd rather play with their mates and win on their own accord.

I know for a fact this is not correct. I've seen it at least once. I'm pretty certain it would of happened plenty of other times.

It takes time! You really can't control the other club, but you can control the vibe of your own club... once you start having a cracking vibe yourself (and making sure you stick around other clubs), it will come. Easier said then done though.

From my experience the Sponsorship from Pubs and Clubs was a false economy... Pubs and Clubs thought it was a factor of x on their sponsorship, clubs thought as money for nothing so didn't really have to do anything, when in reality clubs had to make an effort to get the players there...

I was a club secretary the last time (first time????) making Colts compulsory in Div 3 in ~2009. Every Div 3 club at the time agreed. My view is you need to, for a whole raft of different reasons. The main two are it's great for the health of the game, in that it keeps more players involved...

Use the find a club feature and pick one that is close to work / home / transport. I played / was on the committee for Waverley, so will of course recommend there, but any club in the East will serve you well. The only caution I say for people who haven't played much / or haven't played at a...

Mate... that is a long bow to make. While I can't talk for the current situation, from my time, I saw plenty of professional rugby players (most not ex Internationals though, but played in England and France) express and interest in coming to Australia and joining Waverley as part of their...

That really has been the case for a number of years... the backpackers / newcomers to Sydney really dominate things in Bondi, therefore the natural order of things is now Brits. Waves is still trying to keep is proud Kiwi heritage. As a "skip" even 10 years ago, I was one of the few Aussies.

I honestly can't say if Waverley pay the first grade coach / player. I'm no longer involved. However I'd be surprised. However they are certainly paying non playing coaches / managers etc this year based on advertisements for roles. This is a massive turn around from when I was involved, as...

    Sydney Subbies 2016

Very pleasing to see my "old" club Waverley back on the up... I always said a strong off field presence, would result in strong on field results, and that certainly is the case this year at Waves... With enough rounds down now, the amateur status kicking in (presumably), it's interesting to...

There you go! I obviously didn't come across a case of no one not having played any games! It definitely makes sense to have played.

Just to confirm re the Eligibility rules. Yes there is a cut off date to be registered. Typically 4 games or so before the finals start. Then it is an assessment against the majority of your last seven games. You don't need to have played seven games (or even any games) to be eligible. eg...

Choose 4 clubs would you include in a national comp

I didn't read the article, but general principal should be the top four clubs each year. ie a bit like the Champions League.

    Sydney Subbies 2013

I'm sure there is an element of jealously based on success, but I think other factors mainly decide of a club is hated or not. eg. Are they are a bunch of pricks or not. Unfortunately there are some clubs like this. Having once been on the end of one of their rants / complaints to Subbies...

    NSW Suburban Rugby 2012

This is pretty spot on. I only came in at the last two years of Waves being in Div 1, and Waverley was definitely on the decline then, and Colleagues very high up. Because we were on the decline, numbers became tough in the latter half of the season. But had Waves had a sufficiently strong...

    NSW Suburban Rugby 2012

I've no idea if Colleagues pay their players or not (I've never even thought about it before), but they certainly do make the most of their various networks to make a strong club. Whether you'd want to play for them, that is another matter, and that is why Waves and Colleagues, whilst...

    NSW Suburban Rugby 2012

That was / is one problem with Waverley, but that isn't why we're in the situation we're in now. It was what stupidly happened with 4th Grade a few years back that killed things. With good intention, the committee tried to do something that would bring back a lot of our older former players...
