Actually, thats not what I meant....

I'm sure that's true, twenty seven. Don't mind me. At times I'm opportunistic - truth be told, quite often.

It's reassuring that younger people still have faith. The system wouldn't function if everyone were cynical.

Vodacom Blue Bulls flank Wian Liebenberg will lead a powerful SA Under-20 team at the IRB Junior World Championship 2012 in Cape Town, the South African Rugby Union announced on Tuesday.
SARU named the 28-man squad during a midday media conference held at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport.
Vodacom Cheetahs flyhalf Johan Goosen, DHL Stormers prop Steven Kitshoff, MTN Lions lock Paul Willemse, Pieter-Steph du Toit (lock) and Paul Jordaan (centre, both The Sharks) are the five squad members who have all played in the demanding 2012 Vodacom Super Rugby competition.
The trio of Jordaan, William Small-Smith (centre) and Tshotsho Mbovane (wing) also boast international experience, having represented the Springbok Sevens in the HSBC Sevens World Series.
Several squad members also played Varsity Cup and Vodacom Cup rugby, while Marvin Orie led the Tuks Under-20 team to success in the Varsity Cup Young Guns competition.
Flyhalf Tony Jantjies is the younger brother of Elton, the Springbok pivot. Last week the younger Jantjies helped the SA U20 training squad to 2-0 series win over Argentina.
Dawie Theron, the SA U20 coach, said he was pleased with the squad and confident that the group of promising players will be able to stand up to the challenge of their formidable opponents.
“This is the best available group of players and I am delighted with the composition of the group. We are mindful of the fact that we did not perform to our potential last year, so that, and the fact that we are playing at home will obviously add to the pressure. The JWC is the pinnacle of a young player's career and they will be determined to give it their best effort in front of our home fans,” added Theron.
The squad assembles on 24 May in Cape Town for a holding camp.
The SA U20 JWC group fixtures are as follow:
Mon 4 June SA vs. Ireland (Danie Craven Stadium, 19h00)
Friday 8 June SA vs. Italy (UWC Stadium, 19h00)
Tue 12 June SA vs. England (Danie Craven Stadium, 19h00)

Quite an impressive squad by the look of it. I've been particularly impressed with kitshoff during the super rugby season, looks like a definite star of the future. PaarlBok, with so many players with super rugby experience and the advantage of playing at home, do you think this s.a side could become the first to beat nz and claim the 2012 jwc?

I'd be disappointed if they dont win this year. Dawie Theron the coach showed a lot of promise in his tenure at Griquas and our lot struggled last year. There are some excellent talent right through the squad. Two old strong x Bok fatties son and grandson is included in the squad

Oliver Kebble (Adnaan Mohamed)
Cape Town - The son of former Springbok prop Guy Kebble, Oliver Kebble, will make his debut for the Western Province Vodacom Cup team from the bench in their clash against the SWD Eagles in Oudtshoorn on Saturday.
The 19-year old Kebble who already weighs a massive 128kg has only recently started training at the Western Province High Performance Centre in Bellville after arriving from playing club rugby in France two months ago.
According to the WP Vodacom Cup coach, John Dobson, Kebble is a tremendous prospect who has the ability to go all the way to the top.
“Ollie is a special player. Although he prefers loose head, he has the ability to pack down on both sides of the scrum. He is definitely more mobile and skilful than his dad,” quipped Dobson.
“I have no doubt that he has the potential to become a Springbok,” he added.
Kebble was born in Durban while his dad was playing Currie Cup rugby there for the Natal Sharks at the time. His family moved around the country a bit and he eventually ended up at Bishops Preparatory school in Cape Town.
He stayed there until Grade 11 where he played first team. He then went to England to do his A-Levels, which is similar to a post matric in South Africa.
Kebble attended Dulwich College in London, which is regarded as one of the best rugby schools in the country. Besides playing for Dulwich, he was also part of the London Irish Academy.
In June last year he decided to go to France where he played club rugby in the French Second Division.
“It’s a very tough competition. There are always lots of fights. Of course I picked up quite a few of tricks, but I cannot use them in South Africa, because it’s a bit too dirty.
“But it was like going to scrum school in France. They place a lot of emphasis on scrums and always have lengthy scrummaging sessions. I picked up a lot of valuable experience. I think my scrumming has improved immensely which should help me quite a bit here,’’ he explained.
Kebble says he is looking forward to Saturday to make his WP debut.
“It’s something I have been dreaming about since I was young. My dad has given me lots of tips and just loves to watch me play. I’m sure he’ll be there on Saturday.
Kebble junior however has his sights set on much bigger things.
“It’s not just a short term plan for me. I want to go all the way from Vodacom Cup, Currie Cup to Super Rugby and of course the Springboks,” he said confidently.

and then we have Piet Spiere du Toits grandson. Also a winemaker of note.

SA U20 lock joins Bok camp
Cape Town - Sharks lock Pieter Steph du Toit, a member of the wider South African Under-20 squad, has been called up to the Springbok Planning Camp in Pretoria.
Du Toit played for the SA U20s in their first international against the touring Argentina team last Saturday after which he was called up by The Sharks for Vodacom Super Rugby duty, where he made his debut against the Chiefs three days ago.
The 19-year-old Sharks lock joined the Springbok Planning Camp in Pretoria on Monday evening.
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer explained Du Toit’s call-up: “I’ve rated Pieter Steph highly since I first saw him play at the Coca-Cola Craven Week and after his selection for The Sharks, we saw it as an ideal opportunity to invite him to the camp. I also discussed the matter with national selector Ian McIntosh.
“I’ve said from the start that age would not be a determining factor when I select a team and bringing in someone like Pieter Steph gives me the ideal opportunity to assess one of our best young players.”

Piet Spiere profile
Piet-Spiere du Toit by Doc Craven
I once had a letter from a parent who told me that his son was playing first team as a flank, but believed he should be a frontranker as he was very strong and had been doing special exercises. Would I please take a look at him? He was a first-year student at Stellenbosch at the time and the season was about to start.
I walked down to where the under-19's were having a practice game and asked the coach: "Do you have a Du Toit here?" and he said: "Yes".
I asked him in which position he was playing and the coach told me he was in the front row. "That's where I want to see him" I said and watched for a while.
"We have two Springboks here, that prop and his hooker," I said afterwards. Those two were Piet du Toit and Abie Malan, and together they went - all the way from under-19 to the Springbok team.
Piet "Spiere" du Toit was one of the strongest men to represent the Springboks in the front row. He did not look all that strong but, by gad, he was incredible.

How does this Bok planning camp work? Would this young lock du toit be in serious contention for full international duties or is this just to get him in the system and give him a taste etc. Have you watched him play before PB?

Kiwi squad announced:

New Zealand Under 20 coach Rob Penney has unveiled the 28-man squad charged with preserving the Baby Blacks’ impressive IRB Junior World Championship record and winning a fifth successive title in South Africa this June.

Penney, the hugely successful Canterbury coach, has been denied the services of two members of the 2011 winning team in Waikato Chiefs flanker Sam Cane and Wellington Hurricanes scrum half TJ Perenara for the Baby Blacks due to their Super Rugby commitments.

Both have caught the eye in Super Rugby this year, particularly IRB Junior Player of the Year 2011 nominee Cane with the table-topping Chiefs, and means for the first time New Zealand will go into a Junior World Championship without any players returning for a second tilt at the title.

Even given this statistic, no-one will underestimate the threat of a team from a country that has dominated the four previous editions of the Under 20 tournament, the 33-22 final victory over England in Italy last year the closest any team has come to beating the Baby Blacks.

“All the boys put in a really good effort, and the trial game held yesterday gave us a lot to think about,” explained Penney. “I’m really happy with the squad we have selected with a lot of young men putting their hands up for national team honours.

“We’re really excited about heading to South Africa now to defend our title.”

New Zealand will open their campaign against IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy 2010 champions Samoa at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch on 4 June, before facing Wales – a side they crushed 92-0 in 2011 – four days later at the same venue.

The Baby Blacks, who have won 20 consecutive JWC matches, will then conclude their Pool A campaign against Fiji at the University of Western Cape Stadium in Cape Town on 12 June, with only the pool winner guaranteed a semi-final place.

Pity they won't have the services of Sam Cane or TJ Perenara. It is astonishing to think that NZ won't have a single returning player from last year's title winning team.

Im not so sure after watchin the English schoolboys annihalate the respective Australian Schools and Aussie U19 teams last year...

Do we think that this team has changed that dramatically in a year?

Now hold on, the nuclious of this team may have been in 2011 Aus under19s but with only a couple of trainings together before a team from England that had been playing together many months in academy style matches comes and beats them, is hardly fair comment. One try apeace . The penalty count and the leniency displayed by match officials that behaved as if instructed to make our visitors welcome, made evening the score in all accounts very frustrating that day. There are three runon prem grade forwards I know of from Qld missing, two are in their second season run on.Yes this squad can have a changed attitude one year on and good luck to them .

I didn't mean any offence, I just found it a little worrying that a team that was one year younger, beat them... That age is crucial for development and from what I hear, they were out muscled on the day... The ref is hardly an excuse
