Based on the fact that they won the state sevens final you'd imagine he'd be one of many names they should be calling up.

I dont believe selectors are looking at any past results ie. local tournaments. From what I heard in sevens they look for speed, fitness, speed, decision making speed.....And speed in sevens is different, lots of short burst and changes of direction. I heard them calling out shift in terms of passing the ball, unfortunately a lot of boys simply wanted to run themselves.

As far as I could tell at the boys trials yesterday there were about 10 boys who had come through the ARU talent search from the week before. I think they were a mix of league, touch, oz tag, athletics and rugby boys who wouldn't get a look in otherwise because of the team they played for. They were the black team. I recognised most of the boys from the weekend before. No idea how the other 30 were identified.
The black team were split up amongst the blue, yellow & red teams for drills. I'm assuming to see how they matched up with the pre identified kids.
For novices, the black team certainly held there own and then some in the games although none of them knew how to scrum.
At the end they mixed up all the teams & I have no idea how they knew whose team they were on. I couldn't tell from the sideline.
Some photos on the nsw rugby Facebook page.

dont forget some of these boys would have been doing their HSC over the last 3 weeks so could not attend previous sessions.

"4) Players need to be born in 1997, 1998, 1999 to qualify for the Trial"

Most of the cohort doing HSC this year would have been born in 1996. While there will be some 1997 lads doing HSC this year, the "born in 1997" boy doing HSC would be the exception.

"The metropolitan trial squads were selected after coaches and selectors had assessed players in regular club and school fixtures both in 7s and 15s along with using the ARU 7s Search for a Star program held last weekend as chance to view potential athletes."

I think about 10 were the ARU program and the rest selected otherwise. They were also told a number of other boys were in contention to be selected but couldn't make it to the trial yesterday. They could be HSC boys.

The teams will be announced on NSW Rugby facebook page by lunchtime Wednesday.

Hopefully they could get Tom starling to play sevens the whole team should be called up and asked to trial in my opinion

Pretty sure the knights would have something to say if tom starling was to play outside of school

Not yet. No emails will be sent. Notification by Facebook page only.

Team was to be announced lunchtime Wednesday. Not sure why they bother telling them a time & don't follow through. Last week they were meant to be notified Tuesday but the email came 3pm Wednesday.

24 hours is a long time in the world of a teenager with instant gratification at their fingertips!

That's a lot of kids for a Rugby 7's squad.

I think they register 12 players for IRB tournaments.

Congratulations to those named. One step closer to representing their State.

There will be a final 24 man squad (2 teams) selected after a final trial against a NSW Country 7's team in Feb next year.
