Is kickoff really 30 mins into AFL grand final?
There’s a lot of qld and nsw eyes that would otherwise watch both
To be frank, if it was Collingwood and Hawthorn playing, I don't think anyone north of Mt Kosciuszko would watch the game.

With the Lions playing, if its a close game, why would I switch off to watch history whereas there's a fair chance this Wallabies game continues the trend at Eden park.

There would still be heaps of people tuning in. Basically all of WA and SA. The stupid thing is putting it on at this time just hurts rugby. NZ can take the dim view of it doesn’t matter to us, but they should be trying their best to spread rugby’s reach. Just makes me want to get the cup of them so much more!

as someone who has no interest in AFL, what's the history?

Yep Tom, and as I pointed out what time is next week's test? !!pm in NZ, so you don't think it works both ways?
What time were the Wallabies/Pumas tests? 2.45pm. which was 1 45am in Argentina, yet if it was 7.30 pm kick off it would of been breakfast time in Argentina. Seems that the rugby boards maybe making games time they think crowds want instead of tv watchers?

These are fair points. But they’re really Timezone issues. Did Argentina have a big game played at the same time?
I would say id be keen to bring the bled game forward in Perth, that works for me. The kiwis wanted a day game and I get that, just would have made more sense to do that against SA. Anyways, I’m a mad lions supporter so I’ll be watching both.

The good thing is that it's really easy to watch the games when it's convenient for you now either through the relevant streaming service or via a recorder.

I certainly don't think NZRU care about conflicts with the AFL Grand Final but likewise I don't think Rugby Australia would care all that much either. The FTA TV ratings are less and less meaningful in terms of Rugby Australia's finances.

AFL season draw was announced after the Bledisloes

AFL Grand Final has been held on the last Saturday in September for the past 30 years; it's only changed from this on a couple of occasions due to clashing with major events like Cricket World Cup or COVID, claiming they didn't know because the draw wasn't released isn't a reason. They're simply fluffybunnys.
