ACT Brumbies 2026

I might have missed it, but where is Malakye Enasio? He looked really talented during the U20s earlier this year
A question worth asking. He was MOTM against England last game of the U20s this year. Absolutely killed it in attack breaking the line and setting up Dre Pakaho and outside backs while turning over and winning at least 6 to 8 possessions in defence. English commentators were absolutely in raptures about his performance. But I suppose he's behind the future centre partnership in McLeod and Pritchard at the present time.

Stephen Larkham quoted in today's Canberra Times implying Edmed will be the number one No 10 next year with Meredith his backup or playing 15. This stinks if it transpires as Declan is a better No 10, loyal and experienced in the Brumbies ways. Admittedly, there is not a lot separating the No 10s in Aus, but DM has the longest and most accurate boot of the contenders and is at least as good or better in other aspects. Meredith unquestionably should be given first opportunity next year and Tane should be required to unseat him through performances.

Actually, I wouldn't be averse to seeing Declan at 10 and Tane at 12 at some stage.

Just so we’re clear. You want Edmed, a current wallaby, to be Merrideth’s understudy?
Love that you support your players but you probably need to take the rose coloured glasses off.

I think McLeod will go straight in at 12 next year. He is too big of a weapon to leave out of the team next year with Ikitau gone. Big, fast, and powerful with a good skillset. Im hoping Feliuai has the pace and ability to cover 13 (has played there in Hospital Cup, Super Rugby Aus, little bit for Rebels) so that McLeod is at 12. Dangerous centre pairing if they can make it work. McLeod is going to be a breakout star in 2026.

Who will be fullback? Muirhead? Would Meredith be an option there?
Brums like to play the second playmaker (two 10s) at fullback big-time. They essentially play left and right attack with Wright playing first receiver often (usually around 10 first receiver receipts a match). Wright had 9 try assists and 24 breakline assists in the 2025 Super season. So that does give Meredith more of a chance playing 15, because he certainly has the speed, kicking, and playmaker ability to do it. Only problem is that it badly stretches the Brumbies 10 stocks with the third 10 being Austin Anderson who is certainly talented but untested at Super level. I think they will have Muirhead at fullback, but it could well be Meredith or even Anderson at the back to give this playmaker dimension to their attack. Likely a backline of Lonergan, Edmed, Toole, McLeod, Feliuai, Sapsford, Muirhead/Meredith/Anderson.

I’m taking Australia’s greatest fly half opinion on who should play fly half over yours sorry mate

Rose coloured? I don't follow the Brumbies particularly closely but I'd be presuming that Meredith has the starting 10 slot and let Edmed over-ride the call through performance. It really won't bother me in the slightest should Larkham surprise me here but I don't think Meredith starting is an outrageous mis-reading.

Ok.
Lets look at what we know. Brumbs went after Edmed when it was obvious Noah was out the door. Meredith has 18 brumbies appearances with no Aus A representation so it’s purely speculation that he’s up to this level (admittedly he’s been stuck behind Noah and wright). Edmed on the other hand has vastly more experience (I personally don’t rate him all that highly but he has more runs on the board than Meredith). Wright has gone down, which means Meredith will almost certainly now go to fullback so the No.10 debate is pointless anyways.
I’d love nothing more than seeing Meredith absolutely dominate and boss the brumbies team around but based off the evidence I’ve seen I’m not holding my breath. Good luck to him.

MT, from how you are reporting Larkham's statements you seem right. All I'm saying is that an alternate view is not "rose coloured glasses". It's also not unusual for greater experience to be seen as a good base for closing matches (especially where greater class may be seen as better to start).

Either way I'm not much bothered though I do expect Meredith to have a higher ceiling.

Rose coloured glasses comment was towards BR.
Meredith having a higher ceiling than Edmed absolutely baffles me. At 26, I’m not sure how is suddenly going to take his game to new heights.
