Aussie Player Exodus

Star Wallabies playmaker Carter Gordon is considering a code switch and has held talks with NRL side the Gold Coast Titans, amid uncertainty over the survival of his club, the Melbourne Rebels.

Gordon, who was the sole five-eighth selected by Eddie Jones for last year’s Rugby World Cup after a breakout season, is off contract with the Rebels and Rugby Australia at the end of the season.

...buuuuuuuuut...

Titans sources with knowledge of the discussions, who spoke anonymously because of their confidential nature, confirmed the meeting but said the club isn’t likely to pursue a contract given the eight-cap Wallaby’s asking price of $700,000 a season and his lack of rugby league experience.

Titans coach Des Hasler was aware of the meeting requested by Gordon’s agent, but did not attend.

Hunter Paisami considering move to Exeter.
Just looked up Wallaby record - 7 wins from 24 games!

Can anyone find a player who has played as many games with a worse record?

Harry Wilson has 2 wins from 12, and Dave Porecki has 5 from 19, but I think Hunter is the record holder for 20+ games

How TF is Gordon asking for 700k?
Cause he is the perfect player for league to recruit, playmaker who can tackle. Kicking in league not so important.

Plays a more important position, the others going over play less valuable positions

Hunter also weighing up a departure
Will be a fair few more between rebels players and elsewhere. Salaries still big enough in Europe and Japan to make sense of it

Hunter good as gone.. he is at the age where he needs to look after his family and can’t see RA affording much.

Kicking in league is plenty important - dont buy that narrative.

Plays a more important position then the others going over play less valuable positions

Kicking not important? There were 14 tries scored off kicks last weekend

Is this sarcastic? Every half in league gets shunted so quick out of the league if they have a poor kicking game. He can’t place kick either to their standard. He wouldn’t be a Centre or Fullback.

Titans are just shit and Carters manager looking for future opportunities. He’s more likely to end up in Japan.

Titans might give it a go who knows but they know they are stuffed with Foran on his last legs and the Roosters have 3m+ cap space next year. Good luck to the Titans recruiting anyone in contest with them.

I’ve been wondering about Japanese rugby lately and the devaluation of their currency.

just doesn’t seem like a lot of signing news coming out of there… I hope these players agents are negotiating to be paid in greenbacks because the yen seems to be in a bit of a freefall

Carter's tactical kicking is one of his strengths IMO

It’s different thought. He has the ability to kick a ball but we consider tactical kicking a touch finder pinning them in the 22m. League is relentlessly landing it in the same spot or the in goal for a try.

His erratic moments wouldn’t be put up with for 700k. He’s not Munster.
