Australia Wallaby A squad to play a Japan XV Saturday 18th Oct

I'd be interested to know how many current Wallabies got their first 'cap' playing in a game which wasn't part of a Super Rugby competition.

I don't previously recall seeing double ** like we've had in recent seasons where it reads like:

Reds Caps - 1
** Super Rugby Pacific Debut

I'm not going to die on this hill but it's the off-season (yes despite the Reds capping players this weekend it is in fact the off-season) so I thought I'd dive into it because I find it odd personally. More so the fact that we've got these Wild Knights games happening and one is capped and one isn't which I really don't likey.
Current wallabies? Probably none, but that's more to do with touring games falling by the wayside in the 2010s.

You don't have to look that far back to find Wallabies who debuted for the Reds in touring games though - both Will Genia and Quade Cooper got their debuts in 2006 that way.

This was about being capped though not considered. Plenty of guys have trained with the pros and when they get back to Club land are considered that higher side.

Also Red, Iv'e been reading your signature and love that quote. It boggles but it's a beauty.

perhaps I should be clearer - they are Wallabies.

Like Barry Lea (https://classicwallabies.com.au/players/barry-phillip-john-lea/900) and Ricky Stuart (https://classicwallabies.com.au/players/ricky-john-stuart/734)

NSW played Kubota in November, Force went to South Africa as well. No idea if they count them as caps proper.

Up to the sides themselves. Tour matches for the Wallabies never counted as a cap but I know that's a different tier again.

Force played in the Toyota Challenge in SA both last year and I think the year before and the Tahs have played games against Japanese teams since at least 2018. Brumbies have taken to running the Runners squad against Hong Kong in recent years.
