I don't think we can expect ex-NZRU CEO Mark Robinson, who quit this year to join his family full time in Australia, or the new NZRU Chair David Kirk, who also lives in Australia, could possibly be aware of a very popular event in Australia.

That's farcical Dan. The AFL and NRL have generally had their finals in the last weekend of September with the AFL being played on Saturday and NRL being on the Sunday.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but the AFL have done this since post WW2.

I would even wager a small fortune that every SANZAAR entity knew this because when they sat down to plan who plays where they would have seen what stadiums and where we're booked.

The most logical answer is NZ knew and didn't care because from their perspective it didn't matter if AFL was played at the same time due to the limited impact it would have on NZ stakeholders. This is just a continuation of how NZRU have acted over the last decade or so, acting in their best interests. Which is fine, but let's not pretend it's something else when it's not the case.
AFL Grand Final is last Saturday of September though occasionally first Saturday of October most recently 2016. They announce the date annually it's not locked in years ahead.

NRL Grand Final is Sunday before NSW's Labour Day so Sunday 30 Sep-6 Oct. This date might be locked in years ahead with Venues NSW.

Don't think any of you realise how little planning must go into these things. F*** me during 2021 (2022) Womens WC .All Blacks played a test match in Japan, at same time as NZ women were meant to be playing a QF against USA. Japan had scheduled game for that time and some dickheads at NZR hadn't done the work out of time difference etc and so agreed ot it. There was hell to play over here, and Japan said well it was too late the game was planned for that time and so it stayed!
Mind you I thought fair enough, it was up to NZR to check it when game was discussed, and say that it wouldn't work! And bugger me that was same sport!

Out of interest, who else watched Inside Rugby? Did Waugh say that RA and Argentine R were getting a cut of tv rights for ABs tour to SA next year? Or did Ian Payten just mis hear him?

That was reported back when the deal was announced. In order for the tour to go ahead they had to provide both RA and UAR with compensation in the form of a cut seeing as it would impact directly on their bottom lines with the nerfing of the RC.
