Holmes said he didn't care if QLD finished last every year, he would never leave to play for another province...
Pretty inspiring, his manager probably hates him telling everyone that, but jeez it's good to see still exsist these days..

TPN embodies the clubman ambassador role perfectly, Waugh bleeds/bled for his state, Croft was great not only for QLD but for brothers as well, and Hardman was pretty unselfish in delaying his retirement until he knew QLD were improving

Sure Waugh gave everything for State and Country. At one stage the same could be said about his club too. However in the last years he has been uninterested and distinctly average for many of the games he has played for Uni. Sure he might occasionally sally up for the final, but a lot of people who play there think they are better off without him as he doesn't put in a quarter of what he does for the tahs.

Fair enough to the man as well. It is a huge step down and it must be hard to play with the same intensity. He is not playing for the same reasons as everyone else in the shute shield. The other 1st graders are young guns playing for super contracts and the older ones know this is as good as it will get for them so they play hard every week.

I don't hold it against him, he has done more than any professional player for NSW. However the shute shield is a great comp and you should really only run out there if your heart is still in it.

Every one is entitled to their opinion, darkhorse, but I find your views astonishing, and in particular the suggestion that a lot of Uni players think the Club would be better off without him.

The fact that Phil has committed to continue playing for Uni for nothing even though he has retired as a professional player is the clearest evidence of his commitment.

On the few occasions when he has been available to play club rugby in recent years he has almost invariably been carrying injuries from what he regularly and unflinchingly subjects his body to. With the opportunity now to systematically undertake rehab and repair I anticipate he will again demonstrate what a great warrior he is.

"Uninterested", "average", his heart not in it? You've got the wrong bloke.
