If the ARU has jurisdiction over the event they also have rights over who can participate.

France hands out sporting visas to just about anyone. There's a reason why Todd Carney went to play for Catalans.

Do they have shit tattoo artists there too?

Thanks all for clarifying about the ARU jurisdiction.

Sounds like a bloody mess! The NRL were aware he was looking at "other" option in November (plenty of media reporting). It was identified that a change in environment could assist with his rehab. So this may end up a player welfare issue.

So I am clear, I do not in anyway condone his actions or believe he should escape punishment.

Fucking loig upstart. Barba should have spent more time trying to expunge the smoke from his arse using abdominal force than nasal ingestion.

Ignoring off-field indiscretions I would have enjoyed watching Barba play 10's, broken-field play is certainly his element.

I understand exactly what you are saying TOCC, it would of been a great boost for the weekend to have him playing.
Isn't it also great to see ARU back his ban, it would of been fairly easy to go down the old well it's nothing to do with Rugby route, and everyone wants to see him play, but this is one thing I am very happy to see Union and league support each other on.
Well done ARU

Yeah the ARU can't be seen as a safe space for NRL units to collect cash while on drug bans

Was it luck of the draw whether you ended up in a four- or three-team Pool, or did they first allocate a rank outsider to Pools A & B & go from there?

Might have to play 11:30, 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30

edit - clarified that thanks Reg

Some thoughts on the Bulls.

They are without Pollard - primary flyhalf and captain. In the trial against the Lion 10 was given to the youngster Tony Jantjies who by all reports did well and is getting praise from Coach Morais. Brummer may well be out with a point to prove in the 10s.

Hanro Liebenburg is VC but acting Captain here presumably - and Nic de Jager has acted in trial as Captain when Liebenburg was not on the field (previous Bok u20 captain)

Good to see Jacques Potgieter back in Australia. Injury and selection issues have seen him swap this season from the Stormers to the Bulls.

Newcomers prop Van Vuuren (ex Cheetahs) and flanker Adendorff (ex Boland) have been getting plenty of trial time and may feature in Super Rugby plans.

Think this might be the first time we have seen Marutlulle (ex Kings).

We don't get the major signing Lood de Jager but overall it looks a reasonable mix of experience with youth or new faces for the 10s.

The trial at Ballymore against the Chiefs will be interesting.

Todd Carney is a fantastic marketing tool for Rugby.....may there be more Todd Carney's in League to help the growth of the real rugby game....

From the believer that one day Union will kill off League in this country (with some innovation for a product that as needed 21st Century Reality) as League is boring as batshit (spoken from someone who grew up as Wests league supporter).

Long range forecast for 11 & 12 February is eerily similar to forecast for 4 & 5 February: overnight "low" ~24C, daytime high ~33C, humidity somewhere between 55 & 90%, chance of late afternoon or evening storms. I'm gunna go with @Strewthcobber on this one.
