Ok pre season form based on 2 results

obviously the Kings result 51-10 doesn't look great

but Kings will not be doing as badly as last year

in my estimation Kings will be one of the GPS heavy weights in 2016

where I saw some hope is the respective results versus Marist Ashgrove

Knox beat Marist Ashgrove 43-24
while
Brook beat them 39-17

so bit of a stretch talking on pre season form . and I have no idea if Marist fielded a weaker team, or if other explanations

anyway see how it unfolds .Tom Waterhouse's odds have Knox as unbackable favourites . while Waverley are reasonable odds sitting in a distant 2nd position, with a number of strengths including good depth and handy backs (albeit not overly big)

Please tell me where you find Odds for schoolboy rugby.

Can you actually bet on this?

2 Dark horses have raced each other already. The GPS Dark Horse flogged the CAS Dark Horse.
Nice dig at CAS there NIS. I've always expected GPS schools to beat CAS schools because of the sheer number of players they have. With the exception of Knox, GPS schools have double or trible the number of players CAS schools have. Remember quantity doesn't necessary mean quality, just look at the Wallabies run on team at the last World Cup, it had two CAS boys but not a single player from NSW GPS schools

Can anyone tell me when round 1 and round 10 are? The CAS website is useless. Is it the usual matchups in round 1 (KvB, TvW, CvA) or are they changing it?

Its not the usual draw. Round 1 on 6th May. WvA @ W .... Round 10 on 13th Aug

Trinity has been flying under the radar - any word from Summer Hill? If they can get a full-strength side on the park they will worry a few sides this year.

They're still working out their best XV. Not helped by Payne being out for half the season, but I doubt the backs will be the concern. At least 3 very good forwards (Rasch, Stead and Wayland), but not sure about the rest of the pack.

2 of the 3 quickest boys in the school are doing specialist athletics (and used to play rugby). The other is probably playing 16s. This could hurt them.

You're right - they may well worry some good teams but I'm not sure they have the depth and experience to challenge consistently. Like Waves, composure is often an issue.

Trinity played with a bit of composure against Shore. They had good field position in the first 10 and went close to scoring on a few occasions and did end up scoring first outwide.

Trinity held their defensive line pretty well. At least 2 of the tries against them were off kicks in behind for shores fast outside backs.

The 6 was the captain and made a good pest of himself and had a solid game. 15 had a great counter attack run off a ball that didn't go out and went close to scoring.

Shore got a heap of short arm penalties against them at scrum time, not sure what that was about.

Not sure how they faired in the Stannies match, they were down 1 try to nil when I left.

The Shore boys said that Trinity were the harder opposition even though scores between the matches were similar.

Where are Trinity playing Wayland? Front or back-row?

Number 15 was Ryan Longville who was CAS fullback last year.
Number 6 and captain was Liam Rasch a second rower for CAS last year and James Weyland played prop and scored the first try of the match He missed most of last year with injury.

In response to a few posts -

Joeys v Barker. It was new boy Quinn #12 Y11 who set up early try and then kicked conversion from either sideline. He was very good. Not sure comments about Joeys potential to be a force this year can be made based on this game. As the author wrote, Joeys lack forward size they have had in previous years. Early injury to Barnes their fullback, which may be serious could really hurt them if out for a while. He was destined (in my opinion) for further honours.

Kings. While one tends to expects Joeys and to an extent Newington to be contenders most years, good thing is that hopefully each year an age group will come through from another school to challenge. Scots I feel don't have the quality last few years but sure will be hard to beat at home. Riverviews chances are being talked up and they do have some quality backs in particular. Kings have been relatively strong in the current age group and blooded 8 or 9 year 11s in last years firsts. Peitsch will be a standout at #8, supported by big #4 in Brown and a few other handy forwards. Orpen #12 been a recognised performer at all levels will be supported by Anese #13, who should be a big improver and big lad with some pace. Miller at #15 has good rugby genes and was solid last year in 1sts. The big weapon could be Osborne who cut Cranbrooke up early at FB. Kings scored final try against Brooke when down to 13 players after yellow cards.

Apologies for the GPS diatribe but think we should keep in mind CAS U16 victory over GPS two years ago. Slaven and Dainton, who were in that CAS team, I think exceptional players and will lead Alyo's around well. Basson a proven type at Knox but Armstrong I expect to see in the CAS team this year has also been one of the best of this age in all forms will be well supported by Bosch.

My apologies because I got my games mixed up. The comments about Quinn and Barnes (Joeys) were from the Marist Canberra game week later.
