Knox Vs Aloys an interesting game. Aloys were much better than most people expected. They put up a fight and really tried to give it to the favourites.

The penalty count must have been 30-5 against Knox. While there were obviously a lot of silly mistakes by Knox, the ref seamed intent on trying to level the game. Unfortunately, it stifled the game somewhat.

In the first half, Aloys were willing in attack and Knox's defence, particularly from their forward pack, wasn't aggressive enough. This resulted in Aloys scoring their try and pressuring Knox on several occasions.

The Knox first half of forward dominance is not pretty to watch - Lots of rolling mauls and pick n drive - However it is very effective. They scored several tries in the first half from forward play and lineouts close to the line. Meanwhile the Knox backs were getting frost-bite.

In the 2nd half, it looked like the game plan changed and Knox started to spread it wide. They scored several exciting tries putting it through the hands from broken play.

Aloys forwards were able t put together many phases of constructive play. However, the backs were ineffective and hardly seamed to break the Knox line all game. Aloys nearly scored again in the last few minutes after putting together several strong phases of play.

Observation: at the halfway point, no team has yet beaten (in any round) a team above it on the table. Let's hope for an upset or two in the remaining games.

pretty accurate synopsis of game although to be fair the ref did a good job i thought--let it flow and penalty count was nothing like that--pretty close i thought.I f anything,thought Aloys unlucky on a few rulings where ball was deemed to have gone forward or knocked on etc where actually looked backwards.Aloys still had Dainton out injured so did well considering affected whole backline flow ,Slaven played a blinder especially in defence,Aloys lost their replacement full back with cruciate tear at halftime and used many replacements in 2nd half who did well.Good game to watch despite lack of atmosphere on a Friday.

Would be good to know if Wayland and Anstey will be fit for selection. With Cutrone out as well there may well be a couple of bolters for selection in the front row...
Hopefully they are able to take the field as both missed last years representative games with injuries.

I'd like to be wrong, but there doesn't look to be a whole lot of suspense about this weekend's games, does there? At home, Knox will power past Cranbrook. Waverley has to travel to Willoughby, but there's not much point taking about College Oval being a fortress when your season record is 0 from 5. Waverley to win despite dogged resistance. Trinity at home to Barker is probably the nearest thing to a contest we'll see this weekend. Trinity edged it, 14-6, in the first round. If Trinity is near full strength (read: if Wayland plays), then it should be a clear favourite; but if Anstey is back for Barker, and Wayland is out for Trinity, that will even things up considerably.

With the prospect of another wet on the weekend, the weather may stop some blowouts.

Though I am quite sure the main oval at Knox can handle bad weather. I think the wet will play more into the relative comparative advantages/ strengths to Cranbrook. That is, their forwards are closer to Knox than their backs.

Aloys will man up against Waverley, and be hoping the rain may hinder the handling of the Waverley backs. And hoping for some 'excessive enthusiasm' by some Waverley players to earn the ire of the ref.

Trinity should be too strong for Barker, with their big forwards relishing their opportunity in the wet.

think a few teams would be hoping for the holidays ... as there are quite a few walking wounded

and the season enders sadly are piling up

agree ... tipping easy this round ... even Barker trinity match is unlikely to be close
