Here's an overview on the 2 games I have seen by the Waves so far v Shore and Joeys.
Shore were undermanned and the score reflected that, the Waves front row is strong.
It is not a particularly big side, other than the front row, compared to prior years.
The pack is a mix of strength and versatility.
They did beat the very powerful NZ South Island school champs, which was no mean feat, and won the other game quite well.
This week there are 5 1sts missing v Scots including 1 front rower, the hooker, a 2nd rower and 2 backs.
The backs have talent but were disjointed last week and should have made the final pass several times, thus the bombed tires.
I thought they could have won the game, but Joeys as always never gave up and took their chances.
Both sides had key players out.
Early days but there are a few stars in this team, and you would think as usual, the comp will be fought out between the 3 usual suspects.
Barker will clearly be very strong with the majority of last years forward pack back, along with several key backs.
I suspect they will dust up Shore.
Knox appear by all reports to also be very strong, interestingly this year Barker play Knox early on, and the Waves play them both at the end, so much should be known as the end approaches.
