CAS Rugby 2025

WLF3

Billy Sheehan (19)
Waves 31 Scots 24 in probably he most forgetable schoolboy game I have seen in years.
Waves did have 5 out but played half the game with 1 man down, 3 sin bins.
Regardless, Waves were sloppy and Scots just kept on trying.
Waves led 17-0 and then just went to sleep, on that performance they won't win any CAS games.

Waverley 31 - Scots 26

How is this trial game not an annual fixture? Big crowd, local rivalry, blue collar vs white collar - it ticks all the boxes. Make it happen every year.

As for the game, Waverley could have won this game by 20 if it wasn't for numerous yellow cards. The scoreline did flatter Scots as Waverley lead from start to finish. Scots are a pretty small team - no real size in the forwards or backs but they do have a crack and don't quit. I don't know where Heinz L is but they desperately need him back.

As for Waves, both Finigan and the fullback Taurau were standouts. Finigan is such a good ball player, I can see why he's highly rated in league.

Scots won the 2nds 31-12. They're a very good team - rarely kicked and run it from everywhere.

scrumhalf

Peter Burge (5)
52-22 Newington at FT

Disappointing from Cranbrook, considering they let at half time,
Agreed, i think they will be disapointed they didnt come out of the half and grow the lead, in the first half they really held there own, controlled thru the middle and defended one of the best backlines i've ever seen. Seriously, that newington backline is no joke. Cranbrook backs played decently with 13 being the star. Newington backs were all good, insane speed and ball skils with some great cross field chip kicks that scored them a couple of trys, 11, 13, and 14 were best which was expected. Newington scored 2 quick after half time and took the game out of cranbrooks hands. I expected a very good second half but cranbrook just seemed to slip up and lose focus esspecially defending the newington backline which they were doing so well in the first half. Anyway, i think newington will go well this year if they can continue to utilise there speed, as for cranbrook, if they can continue to play as they did in that first half, with a full side, i think they won't go too bad.

So onto Rd 1.

Trinity v Waverley
St. Aloys v Cranbrook
Knox v Barker

On form I'm probably tipping the Away teams, although Knox v Barker will be tight based on similar results against Shore.
