No surprise to see Hooper race away with it there, he had a truly phenomenal year. I am a bit surprised that Ikitau didn't manage a point, but I guess his best tests tended to coincide with good performances across the park.

Well done Reg. I reckon we've picked a pretty good team, although it definitely needs more BRUMBIES!

Its a pretty sick team, and none I would really argue against, and probably like we all think, no fullback has done the job ...

Interesting, also, how important Philip was last year and how that has seemingly fallen away a little.

I think that speaks to the fact that we had 3 of our first choice locks move on at once and he came from left field to do a really solid, consistent job there, during a year that was anything but. I don't know that he's necessarily fallen away that much this year, just the team around him and expectations on him have lifted significantly.

True Adam - but it also highlights again that, whatever the issues in Australian rugby, producing quality opensides isn’t one of them. Smith, Pocock & Hooper winning 6 out of the 12 wouldn’t surprise anyone, I wouldn’t think.

I think it is also interesting how highly we value them, while they are generally amongst the lowest in terms of dollar valuation in Europe:

A large amount of what Rugby Australia has paid for over the last decade with Pocock and Hooper in particular has been their image, not just their on the field play.

Probably the area where we've lost the most talent over the last decade is at lock and part of the reason there is that we haven't had obvious starters over the long term that have demanded big contracts. Players have tended to leave just when they were likely to get that payday (e.g. Rory Arnold).

We would have struggled for 10s over that period regardless of what we paid for them. We really didn't have the talent.
