So Connacht received a red card on the weekend, makes this forum cause it was against the king's in SA.

I was wondering while watching the Brumbies v Wararahs game why we had a SA ref. IMHO he had an ordinary game and i would have thought Berry or Gardiner would have been better. If flying a neutral ref to SA or NZ to prevent cocieved bias is cost prohibitive to SANZAR , why fly a SA ref to a local derby in Oz?

Precisely.

Would be interested to to hear what "Lex" Marinos has to say on it.

Last time when questioned about South African refereeing gigs he managed to throw Gardiner under a bus.

Gardner was in Europe for 6N.

The primary reason for the change many years ago was to pick referees on merit not due to cost minimisation. This game would not have been regarded as one of the top matches of the week (1v4 in the conference). There were other games this round that on merit would have received the higher graded referees.

Rasta had the sideline duties in the Reds v Bulls before his main gig yesterday.

Probably had him here to keep an eye on proceedings Sat night, Kiwi ref targeting a SA team playing away in Aus requires some sort of supervision. ;)
