Embarrassing performance. Japan were a more difficult test for Ireland

Looking forward to the gaslighting from Schmidt telling us we are improving and we are all too impatient. Team is so bad it looks like Eddie Jones is coaching it

Exactly, but Schmidt will say the players are exhausted even though they play in one of the world's shortest domestic comps, where one team makes the semi and only 10 players have played more than 20 games this year due to injury/rotation

Rennie also had 3 draws in 2020 against top quality opposition with the All Blacks in Wellington and then two against the Pumas. He had a losing rate of 53%. After we get flogged against the French next week, Schmidt will have a losing rate of 61%.

Yep exactly, and Schmidt only has 4 wins (three of which happened after the siren) v Top 8 sides - Rennie had 11

Rennie also didnt have any experience coaching internationally, Schmidt had a great record with Ireland and as AB's assistant which makes him more disappointing

Truthfully what this all likely illuminates is the systemic issues which are beyond whatever coaching team we instill, coupled with the global improvements which have occured over more than two decades of professionalisim leading to most other nations now having better setups than we do. Pathways, SuperRugby and high quality game time, targetted development of core skills and roles, there are so many areas we need to improve on. Our flyhalf situation just exemplifies the lack of strategic planning we've had over the years. Just look at Ireland with Prendergast in contrast.

We're never going to have the depth of some other nations so we really need to be taking a page out of the Ireland/Scotland examples of how to still be competitive with the best.

I honestly don't see Kiss doing any better unless some things change.

Perhaps this is highlighting that you can polish a turd but ultimately it’s still a turd.

RA really needs a hard look at how they’re going to solve this problem as obviously it’s not working and trying the same thing over and over again will as we’ve seen fail.

I suspect that they are aware of many of the issues but are hampered by the cold financial realities of the game here.

It's almost like the coaching isn't making a difference.

Player pool is the issue, and as others have pointed out, money is going to make that more difficult ongoing.

Yeah, what do they about the definition of insanity?

The problem is 100% systemic going back about 25 years. Australia produces incredible athletes, it's just that not many of them choose to play rugby, and those that do are largely inferior to those that don't, and then are developed/coached poorly to exacerbate the issues. Fortunatley we are going to bank some good dollars in 2027, having already paid of our debt this year. If we don't address the wider, systemic problems then the game is not going to continue to exist at the professional level in this country, so we may as well throw the chequebook at reviving the professional game. If we get it right the game will thrive and we will kick butt.

1. Spend $10m on current top level players, making sure we can draft the best possible 31 eligible rugby players into our RWC squad in 2027. Opinions would vary on who these players are, whether they come from NRL, overseas, or whatever, and I'll not give my own opinions.
2. Spend $20m on getting more kids to play rugby
3. Spend $20m on identifying, keeping and developing the most promising rugby players in the country. Coaching at all levels comes into this budget.

Just my $50m worth.

Rennie is a very good cosch
Schmidt is a fantastic coach tho some prep concerns and the odd selection choice
We should’ve been more prepared for lions and 10 seconds from winning the series.
Our problem depth.
We lose right and our back 3 is compromised seriously. JAS is great but he needs more ball / space. If he stays 13 we need to use him better otherwise a deadly rotating back 3 of wright Jorgensen and JAS ain’t bad.
But then we lack a 13…..
Lock depth falls away w Skelton gone
Props are mixed at best but lose one and we’re cooked
