Stannies got absolutely thumped by Kings today. Did not see that coming. Can somebody explain what happened?

Kings we're red hot and Stannies we're obviously off their game. Kings we're outstanding at the breakdown and we're relentless at the tackle not giving Stannies any room or forward momentum at all in the backs or forwards. Kings rolled up the through the forwards continually and had some very handy backs (even with 4 1sts starters out) to score on most occasions.
Very hard to play rugby when you are going backwards and continually under pressure.
Congratulations to the Kings boys they obviously have some impressive depth and we're wonderful hosts.
Stannies boys tried hard all day and will have to improve if they want to compete against Riverview next week.

TAS V St Gregs in the opens
What a day- The maximum temperature during game time was 5.6 degrees. Yet there was a sea of TAS Supporters under the pine trees on Backfield by the time the 1sts ran on.
St Greg's had a great field of opens today- a few very large, very skilled players.
Results for opens:
3rds: TAS 27, SGC 7
2nds: TAS 12, SGC 15
1sts: TAS 17, SGC 59

Thanks to St Greg's for making the 9 hour bus trip north to one of the coldest days of rugby we have hosted.

Gosh those temperatures! Sounds like it was a great day for all.

Interesting. Two years ago the U16 cohort at Stannies was referred to as the best age group in years to come through the College, and watching them play back then I’d have to agree. So I thought they would give the ISA title a good shot this year. Now I’m not so sure.

Spent yesterday at northbridge - what am impressive venue! Saw Shore 2nds v St Patrick’s 1sts - score evades my memory (perhaps 28-0 to Shore), but what I do remember is that St Patrick’s were really lacking in the fundamentals of the game of rugby. I hate being too critical but they may struggle to score a point from what I observed. Have they had a heap of injuries already because I didn’t see 1st XV standard at all? In other news, the Trinity v Shore game was excellent - it was a draw with the score 20odd all.

With Stannies you will find that 3 of the U16's 2 years ago all of whom played for NSW U16's have graduated year 12 having played 1's last year and another NSW 16 was headhunted by a NZ rugby academy over Christmas.

That explains it - the “older” boys have left. If it’s ok to ask, who got approached by the NZ academy?

SPC vs Aloys

Should be a good test for the cats of strathfield

I went along to watch Aloysius play Joeys 3rds last week with a parent of an Alo's player. Having read the threads suggesting a last place finish in the CAS I thought Alo's would get pumped. Instead they played very well against a team that I was again led to believe would be the pace setters in the GPS 3rd XV comp.

On the face of it Grammar should be able to get one over Joeys tomorrow. Uncharacteristically they did not seem to be a team with a mission. Alo's exploited them through the centres and out wide and their forwards gained the upper hand early and never relinquished it.

Was probably more surprised when someone mentioned that Joeys 1/2, their best player by a mile, was most likely the only one to get dropped for the next game to make way for another boy who had been sharing roles at half in the upper grades.

Did not see any footage of the Joeys v Knox Firsts but it might be that a lot of the pre-season banter about Joeys being without peer in the Opens Division might be a lot of hot air

How did the 16A's go?

Are there any boys from the 15's last year in the 1st's?

Hi mate,

I see you guys, 16as, are playing TAS tomorrow at Horden at 11am.
What are TAS like? I would expect you to win well!
