The Race to Halfway after Round 3:
Thought I'd take a look at grading where every program is so far to see how each school is tracking for the divisional split. It makes for interesting viewing.
Please note - there are many assumpions here but I think I've made some sense of it. All the data below comes from the ISA website.
A few notes:
1) The winning team in each grade will be determined by points average NOT total points. Points average is used to calculate who's leading a competition when you can't guarantee that every venue will be open every week. It's a way of saying "every time you play, this is the average amount of points you accumulate". It's a way of trying to equalise the competition if not every team got to play their allocated games.
2) 1st grade has an average points max of 5 whereas every other grade only has a max of 4. This kind of answers the weighting quesiton we all had prior to the season starting.
3) Pius isnt fielding a 15A team (their only 15s team is playing in the 3rd grade comp). In order for Pius to qualify to Div 1, they will need every one of their other teams to do really well. This throws up an interesting conundrum as it really isnt fair on the team that is now in last place in the 15s (currently Gregs). Their score (currently at 0) could end up the same as Pius. They could argue that they were denied the opportunity for at least one win to bost the average points score. It could be academic but something to think about if the margins are close.
4) No school has a perfect points average score to date and I think that's great for the comp as a whole.
5) I have calculated who's leading using a sum of averages. ISA may have a different method for calculating this though.
