Promising. Drua looked good against the Brumbies a couple of weeks back. Rebels have the squad to be at or near the top of the ladder this year if they can keep their enthusiasm going.

Not sure I get your meaning RM. Final trial? If so, none of the Force, Brumbies or Drua have had their final hitouts televised.

Was meant to say trail not sure how the predictive text got final. But everyone one else has had a trail on Stan. It’s not good enough from them as a broadcaster

That don't fit the narrative. It's trails who gives a toss. Rebels look good this year hopefully get the crowds in and some positives out of Melbourne.

One of the people who are listed as a creditor to Rebels - according to the creditor list, $60,000 is owed to Academy Movement.
Academy Movement, founded by ex-teacher Jimmy Orange, has had soaring success re-engaging Victorian public school students from low socioeconomic areas through its rugby union program. But as pressure around the Rebels’ future continues to mount, there are fears the loss of a Victorian rugby franchise could jeopardise its success.

Think our back row will be great with ball in hand, bit nervous about over it. Wilkin will have his work cut out for him without Dickie. At least Daugunu is there too.

for me Kemeny & Vaihu were the picks with good cameo from Ekausi.

On the tax front I imagine a significant proportion of that must have been on a payment plan (and who knows what arrangements they had with other suppliers, especially during the pandemic). There is a difference between being in debt and being unable to service a debt. It looks like in the absence of the reinstatement of funding by RA the directors decided they couldn't afford to keep funding the club.

How about an alternative narrative where an experienced board did everything they could to keep the club afloat, but due to events outside their control, including funding cuts from the national body, increased cost of debt funding, and the failure by RA to convert its long-held PE strategy to provide additional funds meant they were unable to service their debt and had to go into VA.

A couple of things: I accept the directors (actually lets be clear, all but one - not Gary Gray) have advanced the company money to support the club. It shows passion. But I have a problem with them receiving a notice from the tax office in late November - and while not being able to pay that money - it's $11 million - they then proceeded to canvas supporters for cash injections and as per the creditors report, they took their money while technically insolvent.

If we can tidy up a few things with the starters, we've got a very fit, very eager group of boys ready to fix those second half falloffs that plagued us last season. Kev was full of praise for the physio/strength & conditioning team.

Glenny was the pick of the backs (one poor clearance kick but otherwise an excellent outing) and Kemeny the pick of the forwards. Carter underplayed and perhaps a little more cautious than last season but looked to be moving freely. Quite a few handling errors from both sides. Very reluctant to kick off 9, even when Maunder and Tuttle were on the field.

Couldn't pick out who it was in the 27 jersey, but thought they had an excellent game as well.

Because the Sydney elites criminally mismanaged it over the entirety of the clubs lifetime? How much money has been poured into supporting the Rebels? RA you know the Sydney elites chose them over the Force when they originally cut a team. When does accountability come into the equation?

I don't like this anymore than the next person but come on. This failure sits at the feet of the Rebels management.

What we need to do now is figure how to involve Melbourne in the pathway without a professional franchise. Personally, an rep/academy squad that's entered in the either the Sydney or Brisbane competitions. Brisbane having 9 clubs has the opportunity to include such a team. Beyond this. Maintaining Vic involvement in the JNRC at both the U16s and 19s level. It won't replace the Rebels but maintains the pathway for young Victorians into Super Rugby.

From there. Either SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) goes with 11 or drops MP (Moana Pasifika) and as Ian Payten suggests runs an 18 round double round robin competition.
