New Zealand Rugby Team Watch

Copied from the Ireland NZ Tour thread 'cos I think it belongs here rather than there:

The CEO has spoken:

"Congratulations to the Irish team for their well-deserved win last night but clearly the performance across the series for the All Blacks was not acceptable as we know they have reflected. We all know there is a huge amount of work to do," Robinson said.

"Our focus now is to work with Ian and his team to understand thoroughly in advance of the Rugby Championship what is needed to improve performance and where to from here. We will begin this work immediately."

Edit: Some random Hamiltonians have also spoken:

I'm in Manurewa ATM so I wasn't one of them...

TV reporter asked Foster if there was any reason for the media session being cancelled & he replied "I have no idea". What a fluffybunny.
He's not going to take any ownership or responsibility for any of this is he.

Just biff a few players under the bus and trot out his glib platitudes about how good the other team are and how we're all learning so very, very much.

Stevenson said the All Black environment did not look good at the moment.

In a piece for The Spinoff he said the series loss was "what happens when you package up 120 years of respected representative sporting success, call it a brand, and sell it off to Oxbridge dudebro buddies in an act of ego-inflating, nausea-inducing corporate capriciousness".

LOL Ant Strachan with some deeply incisive and possibly revolutionary analytical rugby football insight here:

"I think it's more around how we defend and how we attack - I think those two areas we need to look at very closely."

So defense and attack.

That's all of rugby you puttyhead

Nah rugby is 30% attack/30% defence/40% getting a massage, huddling with the boys to discuss the latest episode of Stranger Things, tying shoelaces up extra good and hydrating - so much hydrating.

Potentially going full Benny Hill now.

New Zealand Rugby faces another dramatic and tumultuous day with two or more All Blacks coaching assistants facing the axe on the same day that Sam Cane is likely to lose the captaincy.

Stuff understands there will be a NZ Rugby board meeting on Friday to decide the fate of the All Blacks coaches, with head coach Ian Foster safe for now. The All Blacks assistant coaches are John Plumtree (forwards) Greg Feek (scrum), Brad Mooar (attack) and Scott McLeod (defence). It is understood that Plumtree and Feek did not review favourably following the end-of-year tour in 2021, and players have again been consulted following the 2-1 home series defeat to Ireland. That points to the pair being at most risk. The All Blacks forwards struggled to impose themselves against Ireland, conceding two tries to Ireland mauls in Wellington last Saturday, while the scrum was inconsistent. Mooar’s work with the attack has also been questioned.

The potential exits have not been confirmed and the NZ Rugby board will have the final say, but NZ Rugby chief executive Mark Robinson signalled in a statement last Sunday that significant change was imminent.

So. NZR seemingly accept there's a coaching problem, but only amongst the AC's.

Joe Schmidt is likely to be a part of that plan. The former Ireland coach was initially recruited as a selector/analyst but his influence as a hands-on coach was palpable at the Blues this year. As a result, Schmidt will be likely to assume a coaching role with the All Blacks in South Africa.

Schmidt's reputation is beyond reproach atm, so he's won't be worried. But what other bastards would want to stick their necks out for Ian fucken Foster?

Whitelock may also be taking over as captain from Cane.

Joe Schmidt and possibly Wayne Smith, once the women's world cup is done. They're the two who can come in and not ruin their careers.

Probably still need a specialist forwards coach though, keeping to the theme they might have to go with a left field option like John Smit.

Yeah no way Fozzie fires all his assistants to save his own skin.

Won't happen.

Unimaginable.

It would be the most indecent, unchivalrous manoeuvre in rugby football bureaucratic history.

LOLLLL. Stormy, Mooary, Plummy, Foxy, Feeky, Farty, Biffy and Tweeky all biffed RIGHT the fuck under the bus by Fozzie as the hapless loser head of the rotting NZRFU fish scrambles to save his own arse?

The most disrespected man in NZ rubber stamps the unfathomed plumbing of ever-murkier depths of the Marianas Trench of disrespectability to navigate?

Won't happen.

Found this in the comments on stuff. No context given wrt strength of opposition but found it interesting nevertheless:

Since Mo'unga made his debut, when starting at 10:

Barrett: Played 23, won 15, lost 8 - 65% win rate

Mo'unga: Played 22, won 16, drawn 2, lost 4 - 72% win rate

Like you say interesting but probably need some context, strength of opposition, and one of losses Barrett started was againt Ireland last year where Mounga was actually the 10 for most of game because of injury etc. Old story of probably can find stats etc to support any argument, and I still buggered if I know what the answer is.

just out of interest WOB, just finished watching Nelson College/St Thomas 1st XV, I though a terrific ad for game of rugby, bloody good skills. in attack and defence, some pwerful boys, and really well reffed (with no f***ing TMO) and seemed no contentous calls etc.
Was meant to be up at club rugby, but tested positive for covid this morning  , and to top it off went out to mailbox to find a police notice for a fine coming back from Maori All Black game:(

^ get well soon.

Been watching a fair bit of 1st XV lately & the skills are way better than back in the day but what really gets me is how big these "boys" are these days. I went to school with the Workman bros & John was considered a big guy as an 8 marking Dale Atkins, he'd be struggling to play hooker these days, I feel.

There's some big boys around isn't there? Like you say Dale used to be considered a pretty big boy. Mind you mate, in this day and age the Workman boys, Dale etc would be playing at PN boys high or Fielding Ag or some such place.

Can we collate a list of Fozzie's AB firsts as he continues his monstershart powerdump bumcrack fecalblast all over the All Black rugby football "brand"?

- 1st ever loss to Argentina
- 1st ever loss to Ireland
- 1st ever home loss to Ireland
- AB's have now lost 4 of their last 6.

next up, the deal-breaking depth charge that will fathom how deeply in the Marianas Trench Fozzie wants to bury 100 years of winning AB "brand" rugby.

- Losing the Bledisloe. Judging by the respective performances by the 2 nations tonight, this is absolutely on the table.

SURELY losing this trophy will see this charalatan and his hapless gaggle of spurious, specious lackeys turfed out on their motherfucking gravy-trained arses.

No?

Well let's plumb the depths even further into ever-murkier uncharted territories...

EOYT.

- Losing to Wales for the first time since 1953.
- Losing to Scroteland for the first time ever.

It's getting very, very, VERY black down here Fozzie you ***** *************** **********.
